does GTalk use sms?

Does the gtalk use sms? am I getting charged for text messages? verizonwireless.com has a 3 day day on my current usage, so it's hard to test.

AIM, Google Talk, Jabber, LIVE, MSN, and Yahoo should all use data.

They would have been correct if speaking about the "dumb" phones they sell like enV or something that has the IM builtin app. Smartphones use the data plan for them (Droid/Eris, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry). You should be fine
