Does having GPS on use battery

I just realised that I've had my GPS on all day but my battery has barely drained. If you are not using maps/navigation/etc, does having it on actually use the battery.

if anything thing sends or receives some sort of info, your phone is put to work so yes. for gps, you should be fine as long as the gps icon isnt displayed on the task bar. it will drain the battery if its left on. just get in the habit of turning it off when youre not using it.

No battery will be used unless some application is actually making use of the GPS chip.

Just the setting being on to allow apps to use GPS does not consume power.

that's what I thought. I understand that it may use a bit of extra power when trying to work out my locations (e.g. for the weather widget) but, apart from that, it barely took any battery power away.

Thanks for your help
