Root Does installing Clockwork root the phone.

If I take a stock Verizon Fascinate and use Odin3 to install CWM3 on it, does that mean the phone is rooted?

This is my wife's phone, and I'll pay dearly if I muck it up. Before installing a community rom on it, I wanted to use Titanium backup to save all her stuff, but then discovered the phone must be rooted in order to use Titanium, so I can't back it up before I start fiddling with it. So are these the right steps?

1. Use Odin to install CWM3.
2. Use Titanium Backup
3. Use CWM3 to install the community rom.
4. Replace the flawed Swype with the latest version.

Flashing CWR will not give you root access. With the stock kernal it will be overiden when you boot.

There should be a thread around here or at xda that tells you how to root the phone.

Root and download Titanium. Also, simply rooting the phone does not require a wipe of any data, so installing Titanium and backing up after the fact is not a problem.
