Help Does mail notification (Yahoo, Google) count as text messages?

I am setting up my girlfriend's incredible to receive Yahoo mails, and I have a question about notifications.

Does notification count as a text message?

Because if that's the case, it's not worth it. She receives like 100 emails (mostly spam) in her regular mail. She likes to sign up to almost everything she likes.

Also, it appears yahoo mail would only sync with 3G speed, not wi-fi.

I've checked some threads to have it fixed, but we'll try it after work today.

If anyone can help me out here, I'd appreciate it.

no they do not count as sms and yes yahoo is broke like that

What about facebook notification?

no notifications use SMS that i am aware of other than SMS unless you have specified to send you a txt. They would come in on the regular messaging app though if that is the case.

The reason I ask is because she wants me to set up her facebook account to receive messages in her Incredible from the people who would write to her only.
