Does plugging in something into the headset jack mute the microphone?

Is there a way around this? I really liked being able to plug my Blackberry into my car stereo and have a really cheap hands free solution. When I plug my Hero into my stereo the microphone becomes muted.

Anybody know how to fix this? Is it possible?

You are doing something wrong because thats exactly what I do with mine while in the car and it works just fine.
 
Don't know what I could be doing wrong. You plug it in and it should work. My phone is rooted, is yours? Maybe that could be the issue?

mine is stock and I also have this problem! Any ideas anyone?
