Help Does the EVO support Apple Lossless (.m4a)?

Since you can hear the (big) difference between mp3's and CD's (why else would your rip lossless?)

Why? For the real reason, most likely:

A lossless file can be encoded to lossy files any number of times, ensuring that as formats change in the future, you do not need to use a lossy source (which does affect sound quality over iterations) later on.

There is truly no "big" difference between a properly encoded MP3 and CD (I dare you to find anyone who can consistently do a double-blind test on a 256kbps MP3 and a CD and determine which is which).

For me, if there's no lossless player that works on Android with album art and playlists, I'll have to reverse course on my planned move from iTunes. Hope one of you guys has the answer.

Frankly, I'd change course and get out of iTunes as fast as possible. Move to a more widely used lossless format, like FLAC, and never deal with the problem again.

I used to care about things like this. But top notch audio quality is no longer a priority for me. If it sounds OK, I listen to it.

I even like...A2DP audio...yes, I said it.

Media Monkey (for your PC) - It's the cat's meow.

It even syncs with Apple hardware and rips/plays AAC with it's own codec library.

Install Doubletwist on your pc, it will convert your iTunes music so that you can then send it to your EVO while plugged into your PC.

doubleTwist - The Cure for iPhone Envy

DoubleTwist's OSX client doesn't currently work. Too bad, because I'd prefer to be able to use the stock HTC Sense music widget. Meridian plays my stuff, but the interface is not ideal for me.

Like the OP, I keep my CD and vinyl collection (25,698 songs, or 80+ days worth, or ~910GB worth, according to iTunes) archived in ALAC format.

Now, I don't mind transcoding my library to an AAC or MP3 file for my phone (I believe that's how DT handles ALAC) because I'm not concerned about archiving my music on the phone. I just want to listen to it on the go, and leave the iPod shuffle (which transcodes down to AAC128) at home.

Actually, I might prefer transcoding.

Is there an app (Android or OSX) that will transcode an ALAC file on-the-fly to an appropriate lossy codec for the Evo, without requiring one to store the compressed version alongside the lossless version on iTunes?
