Help Does the Galaxy Tab S support softkeys?

WindozeNT

Lurker
I have a rooted Galaxy Tab S 8.4" SM-T700 running 4.4.2 and on a stock ROM with TouchWiz. I want to know if I can enable softkeys on it (by adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the build properties file) or if trying to enable them will cause a bootloop.

Hey there. In not personally familiar with your device but do you have custom recovery installed? If so, just make a nandroid backup prior to making these changes. If you do end up in a bootloop, you can easily restore again like nothing ever happened.

If this does not work, you might look into the xposed framework and see if that can give you what you're looking for.

Installed TWRP through dd on the device and made a NAND backup. After modifying the build properties file, I rebooted and the softkeys showed up without crashing anything. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks for letting us know how it went! Glad it worked out. It's good practice to always make a nand backup before changing any system files. Better safe than sorry! :)
