Does the lip drive you crazy?

magdelaine

Android Enthusiast
I'm considering getting the Dinc 2. When I went by the local VZ store to check it out I was surprised by the lip around the edge of the screen. I immediately hated it, but I like the rest of the phone.

What is living with the lip like? You you notice it? Dislike it? Can cases cover it up?

Oh, and do you like your phone? :)

Well, my Dinc2 is on it's way. Guess I'll have to learn to love it. Any case recommendations for me? (Preferably ones that cover that lip.)

I believe magdelaine is talking about the front bezel protruding out passed the touchscreen itself. It's really not a big deal though. After a couple of days, you won't even notice it.

Yes, that's it, and thanks. I'm a mom with lots of kids and any ridges on electronics tend to collect....stuff. I hope that's not the case with this phone!

I have had my Inc2 since mid-June and never use a case. It is always in my pocket. I use it on the golf course weekly for yardages. I have had zero problems with dirt collecting on that lip.

I have never noticed this lip with a case off on the phone until this post. I use the seidio active case (case only) which greatly intensifies this "lip"effect, i just take it off every week and wipe out all the crud that builds up underneath. However, I do not find, in any way, that it bothers me, actually i like it, and it does not affect how I use the phone. The lip keeps the screen safe.

I also never noticed the lip until i read this post. There is no crud on my phone. I have the rubber-like case from the Verizon store, my last case from them held up well and did a good job of protecting my Eris. I really was loving the phone until i got the dreaded disappearing alarm clock/timer. But I downloaded the recommended apps and all is good.

I actually like the lip -- it makes the screen less likely to be scratched or damaged when you put it down face-down (or if it gently brushes against a surface.

I've found the same to be true of watches -- every one I've had with the glass/plastic proud of the bezel gets scratched within a few days; every one with the glass/plastic recessed into the bezel is perfect years later.

It doesn't appear to collect dust particularly much; more gets into the headphone jack, the speakers, and around the power button, none of which are that bad.

Ha, I didn't actually think that there was a purpose for the lip...that is a good point! I'm used to my old (deceased) OG Droid and it's smooth face - proud bezel as you put it - but I must say that within a week of having I dropped it and did get some minute scratches on the glass. That prompted me to get a screen protector and use it for the next year until I didn't care anymore about scratches. I hate screen protectors and I have no plans of putting one on this phone.

Thanks all. I'm looking forward to my new "baby". :) $0 from Wirefly with an upgrade. (w00t!)

Nice thing about the Otterbox Defender is the built in screen protector. I must say it is better than the Zagg Invisible Shield I had on my OG Inc. When using that phone the scanner would never would work at the stores with my Key Ring app. I used it the first time on my new Inc 2 with the Defender case and to my surprise the scanner worked perfectly first try. I never expected it to work after having them never able to scan on my old Inc. with the Zagg protector.

The Otterbox Defender looks BIG to me. Has anybody tried the Otterbox Commuter? It's supposed to be very good and still fit in your pocket. The Defender looks to me like it would need to be carried on the belt or something due to size. I really need to carry the phone in my pocket.

Note: I don't actually have the phone yet. I'm hoping to find the time to go to Costco today and get it for $79 with the upgrade pricing.

The Defender is a little big....but to me it makes the phone a bit easier to hold on to. When working on the squad I use the belt clip that came with in. If out & about while not working I carry it in my pocket with no issues at all. I got it on Ebay for close to half price retail.

Doesn't the rubberized outer case stick in your pocket and make it really hard to get out of the pocket?

Not at all and it really doesn't collect as much lint as the reviews say. It's the internet; people get on it and bitch, not praise. I think it's a great case. It has a bit of bulk, but not overbearing.

Looking at the Otterbox I think that the lint issue would really be annoying for me. I'd have dog, dust, and lint stuck all over it. I'm thinking of getting a Seidio case because I liked the one my hubby got for his OG Droid; plus I'd like a little color as opposed to plain black: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052T9JGA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

That is the exact case that I have. (well, actually mine is black on black) That is a good price for it too. I got mine off ebay for just a little higher. In my opinion this is the perfect case for Dinc2. It also has a lip for the camera lens so it doesn't get scratched. I find that it adds just the right amount of weight to this very light handset. I initially found Dinc2 much too light without a case on it. It felt flimsy like if I would drop it it would surely be in 2 pieces. I didn't want to add as much bulk as a otterbox defender case would. The back second hard plastic piece has a nice rubberized coating to it that has a good resistance to fingerprints and everything else pretty much. It also goes smoothly in and out of the pocket. You will love the way this case feels in your hand. The silicone polymer feels awesome too, I say go for it!!!

Thanks for your impressions; good to know the details. I'm going to order it tonight! :)

Why, you just might love it so much you'll want to kiss it on the lip until you go crazy!!! LOL

;-)
And don't forget, the screen will be recessed in this case making a big lip to protect it!!! Yay!!!
Ain't Androidforums grand!!!

ROFLOL!!

Yes, yes it is. :D

Got my Dinc2 and I love it! I don't notice the lip now either. I think that the dummy phone I looked at was poorly made; it had much sharper edges. Mystery solved!

Happy happy joy joy...
