Does the Optimus V still have data drops and battery problems?

I was reading the stickies and they've nearly scared me away from this phone... Are the new OpV's coming out with the same problems?

Thanks. Oh, and does the Optimus Slider have the same problems?

I have one of the first gens and I don't have any problems with it. I didn't even before I installed a custom ROM. It doesn't seem to be a problem for all of the Optimus.

I know nothing about the slider, you might want to ask in the slider forum.

There's a lot of different make and model of phones that suffer from the TWS bug (in other words; this is not something that only happens to phones from Virgin Mobile). Custom roms seem to fix it.

It was a Froyo bug and most of our custom ROMs are Gingerbread which is why they fix TWS.

So if it comes with gingerbread or I flash gingerbread it will fix the problem, right?

(sorry, I'm quite the noob. Prety sure this is exactly what MacFett said earlier)

It won't come with Gingerbread. Rooting and installing a custom rom (like CyanogenMod 7.2 BACKside IHO is an amazing rom for our V) is something you will have to do on your own (you can get lots of help with this though in the All Things Root forums specifically for the V).

But to answer your question, yes, it will fix the issue. ;)

I don't mess with my life line, not worth it when a stock V works so well.
Mine is my lifeline as well, but, I can assure you, you have no idea what that phone is capable of. The stock phone is TERRIBLE.

It's a completely different and better phone once rooted and rom'd.
A good rom at 460mhz runs as fast as the stock phone does (according to benchmarks). The stock rom has to run at 950mhz(!) to keep up with a good rom overclocked to 760 (or whatever it is). That is a HUGE increase in speed.

Not to mention the extra features and to be honest, more stable.
And the there is the battery life... It triples.

I would never go back to stock.

Will that rom let me make my phone a wi-fi hotspot? I know froyo will (according to what I've read). What about gingerbread?

good buddy has a 2.2.1 phone and 0 problems.

I never said I considered it a problem. I've had my V since the day it came out and thanks to these forums, I learned how to deal with it and rarely even have to think about it until people start talking about it here again. Can toggle airplane mode in my sleep. Not a big deal to me and nothing even resembling a "problem."

Okay, you sold me, just updated to a custom ROM and now I'm wondering why I waited so long!!! Suddenly this V is a much smoother and faster running phone! Updating wasn't too bad, but just a lot of little steps to go through...basically take your time doing the install to a custom ROM and READ AND FOLLOW every step!

I admit the nail biting time is the first boot into a custom ROM which takes longer then normal, but after that it now boots much faster then the VM ROM did!

It truly is like a new phone isn't it?

Shocked actually at how much better this phone is. Part of the reason I took so long to install a custom ROM is I thought to myself "Can it really be that much better then the stock ROM"...Yup, I admit I was woefully wrong...it is that much better!

One thing I noticed is battery life; on the old ROM when I ran a standard set of apps while driving to work such as Pandora and Waze after I got to work my battery level would always be 83%. Now I drive to work running the exact same apps and my battery level is 89%!

Can I have my cookie now???
