Root Does the ROM exist?

That will allow me to input a username and password for proxy authentication when connected to a particular SSID? I've read so many different things about this issue that my head is spinning. One thing that I read said that you had to run a custom ROM that had this functionality built in. I've been unsuccessful in finding one that mentions this feature in the description.

What I'm looking for in a ROM:

  • Allows for username/password in Proxy settings
  • Easier on battery
  • snappy response
  • low amount of force closes

Any recommendations?

3G coverage is not good in my office, but we have wifi. I would rather tap into wifi, but it requires a username and password for proxy authentication. To me, this is the only benefit of an iPhone over Android.

If you do a gesture search for "proxy" it should bring up the proxy settings menu.... Doesn't ask for user name and password, just host and port, step in the right direction.

Ps I'm using a gingerbread rom, don't know if it's on froyo.

Here's an app over at xda that apparently gets proxy access:

There is also an app in the market called ASproxy that might have what you are looking for.

The original post also says that CM6 has proxy settings built in (never ran cm so I can't confirm)

I flashed CM6 last night, but the proxy still didn't allow for a username and password. I just installed the "Transparent Proxy" apk from XDA that you mentioned in your post and it looks like it will do the trick, THANKS!
