Does the stock Froyo fully support App2SD?

I will get my brand new Desire today evening and I had decided to wait for sometime before rooting. Does Froyo fully support App2SD? I read somewhere that it only partially installs the apps in the SD card. The only reason I may wanna root now would be full App2SD support. The phone will be Android 2.1 out of the box, so should I update to Froyo immediately or should I root?
 
Stock Froyo can only move apps that are allowed to be moved by the developers of the app and it still leaves some data behind on internal memory.
I found froyo apps2sd and the apps2sd app didn't help for long, my Desire ran into internal memory problems quite quickly so I rooted and installed a new ROM and the memory problems look like a thing of the past.
 
Well, a lot of apps don't support Apps2SD by default, but there is a method that will force all apps to install to the SD regardless of wether the dev coded for it.
(see 'how to Force Apps to install SD' thread in Tips & Tricks sub-forum).
This method is not without it's problems though, as widgets don't work when installed on the SD.
Also lots of stuff, like Flash (10MB) and Gmail won't move to the SD.

So, in short no, Froyo doesn't allow everything to install and run from the SD, even the apps that do leave some behind on the phone memory.

Why not just take the OTA to Froyo, and see how you get on, you might be pleasantly surprised. If you do find you're running out of space then Root and flash a ROM that supports Apps2SD+ if that's the rest you want to go.

No I used to watch it a long time before Scrappy-Doo appeared ;)
Used to be one of my favourites as a kid, way back when flares were in just coming into fashion :P

My neighbour went to school with David Prowse - he was a Bristol lad and lived just down the road from us when I was a kid.

Now that is cool.

Saw some pre-dubbing footage of Star Wars once, and it was hilarious listening to Darth Vader with a normally pitched voice and a west-country accent.

hehe proper comedy accent is west country - Luckily originally being from Bournemouth myself I don't sound like the peasants rounn 'ere :p

I couldn't have a white phone - my greasy mitts would turn it brown/ grey in no time.
You are a braver man than I :eek:

Oh and you can use it whilst charging... go on... you know you are desperate to :p

I've got the brown desire with a white casemate barely there. The contrast is nice.

Slopped a nice vinyl green android on the back to avoid apple comments
 
Gee what luck I have..my phone has this thin faint blurry line from top to bottom that weirds out text in that area. Guess I'm gonna have to return it :(
