Does this App exist? Restore apps from one phone to another (or after wipe)

I'm sure everyone is thinking.. of course, titaniumbackup, or one of the other million backup apps.

What if I want to just select from a list the apps that were on my old phone and then re-download just the APK's (not worried about user data).

I wanted it to essentially mimic me downloading each app. That way I'm not worried about moving over some config file or restoring data.

Maybe this is even possible with an existing backup app? Is it possible with non-root?

You may hate me for saying it but I think you can do that with Titanium if you send the backup to your Dropbox account. I never tried it but imagine if you installed Ti on your new phone then connected it to your Dropbox, you could selectively restore whatever you wished.

You do need root to get the most out of Ti.

Another possibility is using Appbrain. Back in the dark days of Android, you couldn't remotely install apps via the Market but Appbrain.com figured out a way to do that. You could also save custom lists of apps you had, handy for a restore. If you're simulating APK installs, this might be a better fit if I understand what you're trying to accomplish.

Good luck!

I can’t tell if you still have access to your original setup, but if you do, perhaps MyAppsList could help:

MyAppsList allows you to quickly generate a list of all the applications you have installed on your device and save it to the clipboard, save it to the SD Card or email it to a friend. It supports vB Code (to post to forums), HTML and plain text.

Download an apk extractor from the playstore (there are several, and to my knowledge most will do the job) Use the extractor to save the apps to your SD card. You can move the apps to removable storage, or upload them to dropbox. I prefer dropbox, since after I install it on a new phone, my apps are readily accessible. Hope this helps.

If you have your google account set to backup your account info then all you have to do is log on with the same email on the new phone and let it sync. It will download all of the apps you have on the account and your contact info too.

App brain is good, apart from that you can download all apps from your your Google play store as well. But that would require you to download those again from the net.

I've restored from Titanium as a PC backup. I just copied all the files on the phone over to the PC from the Nexus S, and restored the zip to the Nexus 4 from the PC.

Do you mean, not actual .apk files but like an app that you sign into that remembers playstore links to the apps you have installed and can be downloaded again after a reset or changing phone and be told to download them?
If it saved the actual apks, id guess it would require root

I use an app called "Appsaver" to back up the apk files of all my apps. (Comes in handy when an app update goes bad, I can revert back to the previous version.) I back up all my apps apk. files to my SD card and reinstall them from my SD card as well. (I don't have root either.) Just make sure your phone can install apps from unknown sources. (That's the only way this app will work.) I have done a factory reset and installed all 200 apps from my SD card with no problem.

Appsaver ^^^ seems like the perfect app for OP :)
Just tested it on galaxy S3 though and it froze the whole phone up after selecting all apps then hitting "back up".
Can anyone confirm this on s3?

Yes, that happened to me as well. I select maybe 10 apps or so at a time and no freeze/lock ups.
