At the top, u can see where the status bar would be (im guessing its the rest of the screen thats burnt in and the status bar area isnt)

The screenshots are based on what the software is showing. Its a software screen grab.

If theres anything on your physical screen (hardware) it wont show up in a screenshot (software).

Ex-screen scratches. Same concept as screen burn in. Physical mark on hardware

Lmao oh man do i feel stupid!!! I swear, ive been awake since yesterday :)
:embaressed:
ANYWAY.... the area where the statusbar usualy is is brighter white than rest of the screen

So yeah, with LED - they deteriorate. But the LEDs behind black status bars deteriorate slower because they're off most of the time.

Thanks man. Have u noticed it on yours yet? I always have my brightness pretty low but i am a heavy user

:( I am noticing it as well. I am assuming that this is something that we have to live with and is not covered by warranty? Sux - especially when reading black text on white backgrounds. I never have my screen above 35 - 40% brightness, except for when needed outdoors.

I remember reading months ago that samsung would replace the display on affected devices within their warranty but i havent seen that confirmed mate.
I have 2year warranty so if its true, i have plenty time.
It is startin to get quite bad like i usualy have brightness at 10%, used to have it about 50% when watching movies but now i need it at 100 when watching a movie.

P.s, thanks for reviving my most embarassing ever thread lol :p

Just mailed Samsung UK asking if burn in is covered by the warranty. If they say yes, im gona mention that the phone is rooted and ROMd and see what they say. Aparently under EU law, rooting only voids the warranty if the manufacturer can prove that it caused the fault. Theres no way doing anything to the firmware could cause or accelerate burn in so ill see what happens. Im mostly just looking into it out of principal justnow tbh.. dont really wana send my phone in yet

Well, it does happen with LED displays, as SUroot said, however, I haven't seen any issues with mine. Not even on my Galaxy Nexus, which has an LED display too.

My point is, if you cannot see any burn-in, then you're good to go. Just don't go look for any with discrete eyes, or you might actually notice something, and when that happens, there's no turning back, you'll keep looking at them forever :D

Lol yeah true mate but mine is getting to the point where its noticable and im gona have this phone for at least another year so at some point im gona want a new display. Its not the fact that theres a difference in brightness at the statusbar area, its the fact im having to view films at 100% brightness now so its only gona go downhill.
i am a very heavy user but so this is a freak case but i might as well try n use the law to my advantage eh. The device should be functional for 2yrs (in EU) and a smartphone isnt just a phone, its a media player too :)
