Does your boss hate your smartphone???

Satires

Android Expert
I know mine does! It doesn't matter if my machine takes an hour to run the part and I'm just twiddling my thumbs.

It doesn't matter if my production is above the other guy's.

It doesn't matter that I run good parts.

He said if he sees it out again, I'm fired! lol

So, does your boss hate your smartphone???

My teachers do when I text in class lol even though I do all my work

My workplace banned all phones because someone answered an emergency call from their kid's school. At least for the grunts. Management can make appointments at the spa on the job.

We aren't allowed to bring cameras into where I work, so the only place I can use my smartphone is when im on break, so he can't say anything!

Sounds MORE like the boss hates you using your phone during the time he's paying you to focus on company time (as opposed to updating your FB status or playing Angry Birds) and LESS like the boss hates your smartphone.

FWIW, I don't let my employees use their cellphones when working. They are there to work and not to text their buddies (or... or... or...). If they have an emergency I'm totally understanding, but give those who need to get in touch with you the number to the business.

I insist my staff stay productive while working. That 5 minutes where they are waiting for xxx to finish can be replaced with dusting xxx instead. If I'm paying them for 8 hours of work, I expect 8 hours of work. They can use their phones on their breaks or lunch (i.e. that's not what I pay them to do).

Payroll adds up quickly. Time "wasted" adds up quickly. Combine the two and it simply process to be a LOT of lost money (in both productivity and revenue).

Having to see the numbers and pay the bills is likely to change perspective.

:)

My work doesn't mind it at all. As long as I'm still making calls and doing my job, they don't care if I'm watching Youtube videos, listening to music, or browsing AF. It probably also doesn't matter because I'm making $50,000-$100,000 a month for the company.

I love my job. :)

You're lucky. I show up early, work late and get no lunch break or any other break throughout the day most days. Then I go home do paperwork and even more work for a couple of hours a lot of days. Then I get told I need to work harder.

...and from other things you've posted, you're boss sounds like an idiot anyway.

I seriously hope the job market picks up soon so you can get away from that arse.

I think it depends what kind of job you do. If you have to constantly deal with customers, using your cellphone in their presence (even if they don't need help) is considered very unprofessional. If your job requires you on the phone as you're always on the move and need to keep in contact with colleagues and/or clients, then that's another story.

If your boss treats anyone that uses cellphones on the job with distaste, then it's not just your smartphone that he hates. If all of the other guys can use theirs and you can't...than that'd be an issue.

Lost time from cell phone use is a serious management problem, especially among hourly workers. From a strictly analytic viewpoint, An hourly worker's value to the company is based on how much work they accomplish in a given time period and are compensated based on that time. Anything that is not specifically for the benefit of the company during that time is an expense directly effecting the bottom line.

Management on the other hand is generally salaried and is a task based paradigm. They are compensated to perform specific functions within a specific time frame. It is often the case that management will work beyond normal business hours without additional compensation, so their time is not so stringently managed as an hourly employee who would receive additional pay and possibly overtime for working late.

From a company standpoint, the impact of personal cell phone use (or Facebook, net surfing, reading graphic novels, crocheting, or any other non-work activity) during company hours is much more detrimental among the hourly staff that those collecting a salary, although those collecting a salary should know better (of course, many abuse the privilege).

To be fair to him, he does tell me to take a whole hour for lunch, take breaks and not do any work after 5 or before 8. If I do that, I don't get the work done that's assigned to me so I catch flak. What can you do?

I had the same issue till my boss went and got him an atrix. Now he's on his phone looking for naughty seniors more than I am reading through forum posts. Not to mention he figures I'm working when I'm teaching him how to use the thing.
Now I need to find out how to replace his screen for him cuz at&t doesn't seem to want to do it.
May have to charge him a piece rate type of salary than the usual hourly rate I work for now

I don't have a boss per se, being a student, but my lab supervisor is on his iPhone every five minutes and thus has no room to complain :p

:)

This would work... Except the bosses are usually out and about. The front counter staff is useless, they didn't notify me of my pregnant wife's call the day she had the baby. Luckily I broke the rules and had my phone on me on vibrate :D

I'm not into texting, facebook etc. I browse the web mostly to learn. The I even found and article from the wall street journal that states webbrowsing can actually increase production. However, things like texting and email can hurt production. My machine can sometimes take an hour to run a part. It's okay (For others there) to read a newspaper, but I can't get my info from a 4 inch screen.

I say as long as your rules go for every employee, that's great! :) It's when favorites are allowed to run amuck that breaks moral in the work place.

Yeah, I feel ya! lol I feel like I'm back in highschool again especially since the state I live passed a law that you can't smoke in the work place... I work in a factory, there's probably worse in the air than cigarette smoke. :D

That is a cool story. :D

I actually gave my boss my old (Mint condition) Samsung Blackjack. He isn't into the fancy phones, he just wanted it for work. But I have seen him texting and playing with it a lot.

I'm looking for a new job right now anyways. I'm following the "If you don't like it here then leave" ! lol

It is sad, I love researching things and learning more than I like writing. I could get so much done if they would quit being so petty. We work 6 days a week ten hours a day. Hopefully I can find a job that has less hours. :)

if my boss hates my phone its because of my notification ringer (rubber duckie) or ringtone (Porn star dancing, but it rarely goes off). technically we arent supposed to be on our phones, but noone really enforces it. the guys in the field have to have them incase something happens.

My employer doesn't mind at all.

Any open positions??? (Kidding) We had one guy that quit after two weeks cuz he was so addicted to facebook. He got lucky and got into another place that didn't mind smartphones being used, long as one got their work done. :)
