Does your phone turn off if battery overheats?

So I plugged in my phone for it to charge at night, I woke up to see it saying battery is over heating. So I was in a daze, didnt unplug it. I woke up this morning and it had powered down so it wouldnt get hotter, however the battery level was at less than half. Any of you experience this? What did you do? Im use to charging before bed.
 
It's never happened to me but I've heard of it happening to others. The software update is supposed to fix that. You should update it if you haven't already.
 
If you've got a computer with an internet connection you can download the lg update tool and hook your phone to it and do it that way.

Or you can do it this way which I think is easier. Download and install anycut from google play. (anycut is the actual name) once you have that done open it and choose make new shortcut. Then choose activity and scroll all the way down until you see mobile care. Pick that and it will create a mobile care shortcut onto your homescreen. Open it from there and choose update. :)
