At my work, we use iPerf to do throughput testing of wireless (and wired) networks. I had always used it with a laptop and server but realize there is an Android (& iPhone) version of this tool.
Any device can act as a server including a phone so maybe a few could really do a test of 4G and post results.

One can easily test at home on wifi and then maybe a couple of 4G users (or someone with a high speed connection) can get together and test 4G.
