Root Doing ok, but what next?

Out of curiosity, where does Titanium Backup save your data? Because if you wipe your data before installing a new ROM, wouldn't that wipe the Titanium backup app?

it creates a file on your sdcard ;)

Ok, and I am assuming that in that saved data it will know that you paid for the full version of Titanium Backup? So would you just redownload the Free version and load you data and then it would automatically be upgraded back to the Pro version?

i cant speak to the new market pay version of titanium backup, but on my version i got before you could buy it on the market we got emailed a file to put on our sdcards so we could just redownload the free one and it recognizes that we are premium right away.

id imagine the new one does something similar, but i cant speak from experience :)

clockworkmod---download---deodexed.com---rommanagermanifest---jt1134 :)

update.zip just stays on the root of your sdcard, dont touch it or rename it...it will automatically flash you through stock recovery into clockwork if you boot in through rom manager....if you boot into stock recovery, then navigate down one and select "apply update.zip" to get into cwr...but dont ever manually do anything with the file

So like I said, last night I did choose update.zip in Rom Manager, thinking that may have been Superclean. I got into clockwork, and did something that apparently ended up with the phone rebooting and me having all stock settings. Do you know what happened?

I loaded my backup, but just checking, I didn't mess anything up here right?

You warned about not manually messing with the update.zip file. In general, are there any other big no-no's that would prevent you from restoring in the event if something bad happening?

tbh i cant give you a reason as to what happened when you chose update.zip in rom...ive never tried it :) as there was no reason to

if your backup restored fine, then you should have no issues id assume

big not to dos on in general with root: deleting/freezing/renaming any google apps, not having any clockwork backup on your phone, flashing things in odin under anything but pda, flashing roms/kernels/themes not made specifically for the vzw fascinate, delete system apps that arent safe to delete, flashing voodoo without knowing what it is/does and knowing how to recover from a bad uninstall, flashing nonvoodoo kernels over vooodoo kernels...im sure theres a lot more but thats what comes to mind at the moment :o

Just curious, if I tried to redownload a rom I already downloaded, what would would happen? Would it overwrite the file, make a duplicate, or what?

no, rm notes that you already have the file and moves on to the the installation process

I just reinstalled superclean from the file on SD card. However, when I first installed it yesterday, before the install, it asked me about whether I'd like the puzzle lock screen (which I did) as well as the duration of the soft key backlight. This time, it didn't ask me about that, and it loaded with a sliding unlock screen. Is there a way I can choose the puzzle and backlight time settings again?

Also, after backing up all apps and system data, after loading Superclean, what option should I choose when restoring? I kind of just want to reinstall user apps, but I don't see that option. If I click "Restore missing apps with data", all of the apps have a line through their words, what's that mean? There's also a lot of bloat in here, and im not sure what to restore and what not to to keep my phone from freaking out.

Look in rom manager under jt there should be an option to go back to puzzle unlock

In titanium backup try and press on the Apps with lines through them and see if it gives you an option to restore....if not then it was probably a system/app which has been removed in this rom and can't be restored...(like a Verizon bloat app)

I'm currently doing great, everything is pretty much working as I wanted. At some point, I tried to reinstall Superclean, and it seemed to freeze in clockwork. I pulled the battery, repeated process, and everything worked fine. Is it bad to pull the battery in that situation, or is it only really bad concerning Voodoo?

I ran Quadrant when I first rooted and now with custom rom. Before it was 873, now it's around 912. Is the only way to get that huge jump I've seen in certain posts to use Voodoo? Don't think I want to mess with it. Anything else I might want to check out for performance other than checking out other roms?

battery pulls are only *really* an issue when it comes to voodoo, avoid that and worst case scenario you just restore a backup :)

oh and quadrant doesnt mean much, so just judge your performance as to how much snappier and smoother your phone is in everday use...ie web browsing, games, texts, screen transitions, etc

Just curious, if any OTA update comes out at all, what should I do? What even happens to alert you on your phone when an update like that comes out? What happens when you deny it? I've never seen one, the only time my phone got one was when the salesperson in the store applied it the day I bought it. I'm guessing if you're not stock and unrooted you could brick your phone by applying anything at all that comes OTA? (That IS Over The Air, right? Never saw someone spell it out)

I did my first backup on my phone right after I achieved root. If I loaded that backup and applied an update, what would happen?

Ota s and root are always hit and miss....best case scenario you take the ota and loose root.....worst case you bricj

Generally its safest to wait for one of the devs to turn the ota into a flashable zip. ....which usually happens within the first day the ota has gone out

OK, a bit proud of myself, just flashed dj05 clean _0.7 All went well. That said, I'm wondering what to do next? Been reading around and wondering if there is a kernel I should add to the mix? My quadrant scr is 1800. Is this the time I use rom manager to download a Voodoo mix? Just wondering what my next move might be? and one question, How do I know what versions of everything I have running? Setcpu says i have 2.6.29 as my kernal...I'm abit confused about if stupidfast and the other options work with dj05. If there is a post out there putting some of these options together, could someone point me towards it? I'm having a riot hacking this thing, but not sure what works with what?

So, djo5 clean .7, followed the "
How to update to DJ05 on the Samsung Fascinate"

and looking for the next step. Is this where I choose a voodoo or stupid fast and if so, what works with my dj05? Suggestions? Thanks and again point me somewhere if this information is in a thread and I missed it.

If it's 1800, you're already running a Voodoo kernel. I just hope it's a v5 for DJ05 instead of v4 for DI01.

also, everyone do yourselves a favor and remove quadrant...unless you cant remember if you have voodoo on or not....it serves no purpose on this phone ;)

1700, I had11/15uv without the lagfix installed before putting on dj05. Was I supose to do a lagfix first? My question is still, what is the Voodoo blend I should put on here. IE looking at nitsuj17's stats, he has drod 1150 v5 running. (thanks by the way nitsuj17 for all your helpful posts)
1. My question is, have I messed something up by not doing something with 11/15 before dj05?
2. What is the next step for me to have a solid system working with dj05? Sounds like I might not have the best flavor of voodoo running right now. And if there is a better flavor out there, point me towards it. Do I use Rom Manager to pull it down or look somewhere else?

Thanks for any leads.

1700 means you either have Voodoo4 or OLCF, probably Voodoo4 (there was a 1115_test_voodoo_uv kernel). Never tried flashing Voodoo5 over Voodoo4, but you may want to de-Voodoo with disable_lagfix and go back to stock before reflashing everything.

I just flashed JTs superclean 7 with DJ05 and everything appears to be wonderful, except now, my google maps app keeps force closing everytime i try to open it. did i miss something? or can anyone lend some assistance? thank you in advance.

Nitsuj, I wanted to install your Nextang theme found here:
{Theme}{Port} DJ05 + DI01 Nextang 12.9.10 DJ05 - xda-developers
Still running Super Clean DI01 at the moment and Stupidfast v1.23 I think. Few questions:

-How do I install a theme as opposed to a rom? Just put the zip on my sd card and select Install ROM from SD in Rom manager?
-Is there a way to tell what Rom and Kernel you're using if you forget?
-I currently have the puzzle lockscreen. The only reason I have it is I like when I get a text, being able to read it by dragging a puzzle piece on the lockscreen. On your theme, and others with sliders, is the only way to read texts to unlock the phone and open messaging?

if you grab Handcent from the market, there is a setting in it to make your incoming message pop up on the screen so that you can quick reply to it without unlocking your phone.

You can flash it just like a rom yes....remember to select the dio1 version....it shouldn't convert you to the other lockscreen.....if it does go to rom manager under jt and select restore puzzle unlock
