I was curious about this as well, so I re-read my contract and called Sprint. It is fine to turn this on, as it is included in most plans (simply everything has it included). The Sprint rep stated that there is no cap on how much data roaming is allowed, but there actually is a limit. However, you won't get charged for any overages until you are notified you have gone over (at least this is what I understand).
