Don't hate... question about unrooted Gtab

Yep, I'm a wooter who got a G-Tab in the mail the other day. I was going to root it but decided to just use it in the state it's in until I get bored ... then I'll root it.

So the question is... I installed newer versions of the Facebook app and the YouTube app because the original on the tablet both those programs would crash. Installing the newer versions fixed that problem but now under Applications I have 2 Facebook and 2 YouTube apps. If I go the standard route of Manage Applications, it only has the new apps as the ones I can uninstall. I know these old ones are in the Master Apps folder. Any way to get rid of the old apps? Would replacing them with the newer apps in that Master folder do anything?

This should probably be in troubleshooting section. Sorry. Maybe a Moderator could move this?

My only guess is that the old facebook and youtube apps were built into system apps which is a different location where downloaded apps are stored. There are a few ways of getting rid of system apps but they all require rooting.

You're not bored by having to replace non functioning apps? I've seen some posts including a big thread over at xda that even if one intends to root and replace the rom, you should use it stock to "get used to it". Why should you get used to a system you have no intention of using? If you've read up on the process and especially if you've rooted and flashed a phone before? Go for it! It took about a minute to see that tapntap wasn't for me and about 10 minutes time to wipe it off MY tablet.

+1, rooting this thing is easy and there are plenty of people around to help you out. stock tapNtap was only on my device long enough to download the files i needed to replace it, lol. and, if you think stock is bad now... you should have seen it in december. :eek:

You shoulda seen it in november! That's double yuck.
 
I fought rooting for at least a few days. Seemed dumb to have to mod something right away and sounded dangerous. Wrong. Wrong wrong

The way I looked at it, I was getting a screaming deal on a piece of hardware that's almost as good as the xoom for about half price, at the cost of having to flash a new rom to get it to a useful state.
 
*Hangs head in shame*

Okay. Last night I broke down and rooted the G-tab.

Frankly, I'm embarrassed at how dead simple it was. Although I will admit it was an adventure figuring out how to download stuff I wanted on it before without the android market. It wasn't impossible but it certainly was a challenge.
