Root Don't know what kernel to use????

What is your phone running?

AOSP tend to be for aosp roms, and sense tends to be for sense roms. Though, there has been some cross over in the past (I'll admit I'm not quite 'fresh' on current kernels).

;) Basically, you want tiamat lol. ;)

(but in all seriousness, it depends on your phone, remember YMMV).

The Kernel you choose, has to match the type of ROM you are using, or you can and will brick your phone.
All the Kernels listed both on this forum and on XDA forums CLEARLY state whether it is ASOP or SENSE. Same goes for ROMs, they do not MIX on the EVO.

Plain and simple:

If you're on an AOSP ROM, flash an AOSP kernel

If you're on a Sense based ROM, flash a Sense kernel

Also, if you're on 2.3.3 running Sense, you'll only want to flash Sense Gingerbread kernels.

You can find both types of kernels here.

Btw, you won't brick your phone if you happen to flash the wrong kernel, your Evo will just be really unstable.

You're likely running one of two things:

AOSP (Cyanogenmod, Decks, SalvageMod, MIUI) then you want to flash either Tiamat or SavagedZen. My battery life is significantly better with Tiamat 3.3.7 than anything else, but all phones are different so YMMV.

Gingerbread Sense (Android 2.3.x w/ HTC Sense) - You want either the Freedom Kernel or Chop Suey. They're pretty similar, but I get better results with Freedom. There are three different builds and 4 different downloads for each build. Unless you're running the SynergyGodmode rom or a Synergy Nightly build, you want the Universal Freedom kernel. From there, the Aggressive, More, Less and Stock builds refer to how much undervolting the kernel does. Some phones can handle a lot of undervolting, some can't.
