Don't piss off smart people!

Being fired sucks, and naturally everyone thirsts for revenge. With this in mind, Japanese pharma firm Shionogi maybe should have been more careful when it canned IT peon Jason Cornish. Like, maybe change your passwords? Cornish got his vengeance.
IT World reports Cornish, who for some idiotic reason was held on as a consultant after being fired, proceeded to remotely wipe out almost all of his former employer's servers from a McDonald's WiFi connection. Erased. And should this really come as a surprise? A study from a few years back said 88% of corporate techs would do the same thing if they were fired. Don't piss off smart people!
The attack cost Shionogi $800,000, but it could cost Cornish 10 years in prison. Revenge, unlike a Big Mac, is a dish best served cold. [IT World]

Don't Fire This IT Bro Or He'll Destroy All Your Servers from a McDonalds

I wonder if he regrets his decision if he does get the max sentence. Getting fired and getting 10 years in jail? I hope he doesn't have a wife and children or else he really screwed them over as well.

shoulda just changed the email pass word to the higher ups. one thing ive noticed with cell phones and working with owners of business', for the most part they are completely ignorant when it comes to things computer related. Some have gone as far as to insist they dont have a password for their email at all :(

I knew a guy that was fired from a printing factory. On his way out, he threw a handful of change in the web, causing $60,000 in damage.

I keep thinking back to the movie, Minority Report. The main character gets fired, chased by police and thrown in a cryogenic cell for his crimes. Yet, he still has access to the most secure level of the police. You'd think that if you fire someone, you would revoke his access.

Granted, the IT guys was hired back as a consultant. Not sure in what role. If it is in the same role, why fire him in the first place? If it is a different role, his access should have been revoked or changed to suit his new role.

I don't think this guy was that smart to begin with. I know that I can do some significant damage to my company's systems very easily. However, the important part is NOT GETTING CAUGHT which is much, much more difficult. This guy basically committed career suicide with his actions. Someone really smart could do damage without getting caught or make it so that the company hires him back with a pay raise.

I wonder where he will even be able to work after getting out of prison since he will have that little company sabotage thing in his references and being convicted of a serious crime. Way to deal with being fired and permanently ruining your career in the IT field.
