Root Don't want to wait for ICS

I got a Rezound this weekend, and was (for some dumb reason) under the impression that it was getting ICS imminently.

I am not a developer, and really having difficulty figuring out how to get ICS on the phone.

I saw this link: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update for HTC Rezound and have seen many others with similar instructions.

It seems crazy easy and straight forward, but it is just not working for me. I downloaded the file. I renamed it. I put it in my ext_SD folder. I restarted the phone in fastboot.

It runs and says "no image" or wrong image. About 10 lines that zip by fast all with errors. And that's it.

Am I putting it in the wrong folder? Is it possible that it's just a faulty file (It's a 600 MB file that I have download at like 10k/s from Rapidshare so it took me almost a day to download the thing - so hopefully I don't need to download it again)

I feel like a moron. The directions can't be any easier, but I can't get it to work. Because it's a new phone, I even re-set the phone to factory settings before doing this and it didn't work.

This is totally stock. Still locked.

I have downloaded HTC Synch if there's an easy way to put ICS on it that way.

Just so sick of handset manufacturers throwing all this crap bloatware on their phones, and I want ICS to at least disable it if I can't delete it.

Congrats on the new Rezound. I hope you enjoy it. Do keep in mind that ICS is a promised upgrade coming to the Rez. If you decide to root.. best of luck to you and enjoy..

You cannot upgrade without being unlocked and rooted. ICS is coming. But if you really cannot wait, start here:

http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...ys-noob-friendly-root-guide-start-finish.html

the link he posted has a download for an ruu, wich he could do without being unlocked and rooted, however, i would not reccomend installing it without knowing a couple of things:

1)once you flsh it,youre stuck on it. you cannot go back to GB without unlocking, rooting, and becoming "s-off". youll have to live with the leak until a newer leak comes along,as your stock s-on phone will not let you go backwards in firmware.
2)you will likely not get the "official" ota ifyoure on a leak, due to the way that the updater scripts work.they tend to look for only official release build numbers, wich means youll need to be running 2.01.605.11 to recive the OTA. your only means if getting the official version will be to run another ruu and install it just like you instal this leak. this means it will wipe your data.

if you really wish to try the leak ruu,i would strogly reccomend to unlock, root, and s-off first,so going back is not a big deal.

if the s-off procedure is not something you wish to do at this point, just unlock, root, and flash some custom ics roms. there is a patch available to make it work with your GB firmware. its safer, and you can always revert back to stock unrooted GB if you want to.
