Help Double Notification Sounds w/Text Msg.

sidespin05

Newbie
I recently downloaded Zedge for a ringtone/notification sound i wanted. I "was" using Handcent also. I applied the tone but when the tone sounded a few seconds later the original tone also sounded. I verified the stock message app. was off, but it continued. I then removed Handcent to verify if wasn't somehow part of the problem, well it still does it with the stock message program. I re-check settings, all are set to what i want .... but it still sounds the original tone a second after the one i want.

Does anyone have an idea of what i'm not doing????

( I have the Nexus S 4g)

Thanks!!

Hello Sidespin.

I'd go into the application manager and start over by removing cache and data on the messaging apps as well as Zedge (I'd uninstall that for sure as part of the troubleshooting for the issue), both stock and any 3rd party app you may have installed. Then reboot.

Be sure to have backup enabled, via Google/Gmail or whichever backup system you use, prior to the data clearing.

I'd leave Zedge out of the picture altogether just to help isolate it as the cause.

That will probably wash away the double tone issue. Let us know the outcome, and also if you've reinstalled Zedge or a 3rd party messaging app again, etc.

Thanks for taking the time for me. I removed Zedge and cleared Data & Cache, tried once once and only the original tone sounded. So i went into the message stock msg app i choose the one i downloaded and saved. It went back to the double notification again. A question, when you said reboot, was this the "Soft " reboot? ie ... turn off and on or a "Hard" Reset?

Are you using Google Voice? Is so, you will likely get notified both by the Google Voice app and by the Messaging app when a new text message arrives.
