Root Downgrade 2.3.3

Android updates are semi mandatory, you can ignore to a point, but there might come a point where the install will happen anyway of it's own accord?

You can't downgrade the apps as far as I'm aware, but you can downgrade to an official 2.2 software version. That will downgrade your apps too but it would probably try to upgrade them again as soon as you connected to the internet/accessed the market again. You'd need to get in there quickly to stop this happening.

Why would you want older version btw?

Edit:
Android 2.2.x = Froyo
Android 2.3.x = Gingerbread

I've no issues with reliability but 2.3.3 has brought unwelcome interface changes, including to YouTube (the double taping screen thing) and to Maps (fading in zoom).

If it is indeed possible to downgrade, how would i go about it?

No worries. It's a relatively straight forward process if you're unbranded. I got a few error messages at first, but got there in the end.

If you go into Settings -> About Phone -> System Software Updates -> Scheduled Check and uncheck the box, that should stop the upgrade messages appearing every now and then.

There are also a few issues (1 in particular) with the base version of software on the handset, take a look here for potential fixes.

some apps upgrade without asking you - before i rooted google maps would try to upgrade itself everytime i launched the market app despite having options disabled. if u realise its happening then you can go to google maps when you launch market and cancel the upgrade through there, but launching market the next time will have the same outcome.

When you update an app, you have the option to allow it to update automatically... I would have thought that you should be able to untick the option...

Go to the market, then press menu and select my apps and select/unselect the apps you want to auto update. :)
