Downgrade app fails

I have an app that will not connect to network. My wife has a working older version of the app so I have copied it and tried to install it but the installation fails. I have tried just clicking to open the file, using adb and Split APK installer without luck. I get a Java error 'cannot open file'.

Any ideas appreciated.

Not all apps run on all devices.
Yours might be one.
What's the name of the app?

That version might be incompatible with your particular phone or tablet. Maybe you can find versions of the app on apkmirror.com
