Root Downgrade from Gingerbread but What now.

Hi All

Ok very new to Android phones (had it less than a day) but loving the community feel already.

So i have a HTC Desire HD liking what i see so far. Wanted to root it but it was shipped to me running Gingerbread 2.3.3 but its not branded.

I read the posts on downgrading to 1.32.405.6 to be able to root and do S-Off and E-Off, which i have done sucessfully, so rooted now. I did rather like the 2.3.3 feel of the phone so really im asking what my options are now.

Can i upgrade back to 2.3.3 via a ROM/OTA or am i now in the land of custom ROMS only? I have read that leedroid is similar to gingerbread so i may go there if needs be, but can i only do that from 2.2, which is what im showing after downgrading. If i upgrade to 2.3.3 now ive done all this will i lose it all again (root access and S-off E-off etc)?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!

To clarify, what you call E-Off is (I assume) really Engineering S-Off. I don't think anybody uses the term E-Off, so keep that in mind when reading guides and so on :) (Other names for it include engineering hboot or bootloader).

So now your options are either
a) Re-update the phone to stock gingerbread. You should be able to get root access using the gingerbreak app (not visionary) on 2.3 now you have both types of S-Off.
b) Install a custom rom. (This guide, from 'Installing ROM Manager & Clockwork' onwards, can show you how).

Personally, going back to stock gignerbread would seem like a bit of a waste now. Leedroid, as you mentioned, is basically stock gignerbread with a load of improvements + root only tweaks. It is far superior to the stock firmware. You also have other options, such as cyanogen mod 7 (which is gingerbread without HTC Sense and my personal favourite) or MIUI (which is gingerbread with a different custom UI to sense).

thanks Xyro

Thats what i needed to hear. Yes was referring Engineering S-Off so my bad i will keep that in mind now. LeeDroid sounds like a good starting point so ill go that route as a "testing the water" step.

Thanks for your help
