Help Download Mode prob

I cannot get my S3 I9300 into Download Mode. I have seen referrences to a jack that you can plug into the USB port that will force the phone into Download Mode. Does anyone know where to get one of these?
 
Press Volume Down (I think - maybe it's volume up?), power and Home at the same time. Hold them all until you see the warning, then let go of the buttons and press volume up.

Therein lies the problem. It will not go into Download Mode in the conventional manner. I have seen several referrences and a vid that says there is a small plug that you put in the USB port that will force the phone into Download Mode.
 
Im gona get one of them jigs for "just incase".
Are they device specific?
Theres guides on making them yourself :)
