Help Downloading Apps not from play store

Sometimes my dad grounds me from using some of my chat apps that i use to talk to all of my friends. He always checks the Google Play Store on my phone and looks under My Apps and then All so he can see if i've downloaded one of them. If i download it from the play store it will show up here, even if i've already deleted it. I used to be able to get around this by downloading the .apk file for the app from another website, and not from the play store. That way it wouldn't show up in the My Apps section. But the other day i did this and the app still showed up in the My Apps part of the play store, even though i didn't download it from there.

Does anyone know why this happened, and if there is another way to download an app so it doesn't show up after i delete it? Thanks everyone!

Andrew

Yes, because your apps are being backed up on the Google Server.

Sometimes takes some time to show up, but once it sync's it will show up, this was not always a feature with the App Store. Also some apps won't show up, if they are not on the Play Store at all.

Yes, but one of the apps i downloaded like this yesterday didn't show up. And this has never happened before.

Thanks for that info, Don. Does anyone know if there's a way to disable this, or download an app another way so that it doesn't show up?

Yes, what type of phone do you have ??

sorry to be dense, but where are these settings? I don't see them in either the play store or in the general phone settings. Am i missing something? Thanks.

If you have a HTC phone, then they should be there, hit Menu/Settings/Privacy, then uncheck, back up my settings, and uncheck Automatic restore

Its weird because yes, i have an HTC evo, but i don't see this option. I click menu, then settings, and I see a bunch of options, but not privacy. The options are: personalize, wireless and networks, call, sound, display, account and sync, location, search, connect to pc, security, dock, applications, SD and phone storage, date and time, language and keyboard, accessibility, voice input and output, system updates, and about phone. No privacy! Is there anywhere else i can look? Sorry to take up your time.

I don't believe the OG Evo 4G has that option. Sorry.

Note: I took the initiative and move your thread to its area of discussion - in the event that other users of this device might see your thread and can offer additional info regarding your concern. :)

Is your phone a Sprint EVO ?? I would assume, then I will move your thread there if you are OK with it, and I am sure someone will help you that has the same phone, that option must exist somewhere there, maybe it is in a different place, when you sign in to Google it always ask you if you want to have your apps stored on the Google server.

I could have sworn there was a privacy setting on OG Sense somewhere. I am almost always on AOSP stuff and I know it's built in there. Maybe it's a Sense 2.x+ option?
