The hardware in server that powers Android Forums failed and as a result, the database was corrupted. In addition to those technical difficulties, our host was unable to produce any backups. Luckily, we had manually gone in and made a backup just one day prior to this happening.

I would love to hear more of a technical nature what went wrong and the like, as a tech lover i enjoy details:D:D

Thanks for the update. Just curious...do you do incremental backup of your database? If you don't, you might want to consider that because you might not be able to do manual backup the next time. Are you using MySQL?

It's good to see posts from staffers who know what's going on; cuts down on the theories. ;)

A lot of threads around the forums have a mention or three by users wondering what's up.

I wish I knew more, but that is the extent of my knowledge on this issue.

That's a good suggestion, but like I said above, I'm just the messenger. I have nothing to do with the technical aspects of the site.. that's all Rob and Phases. Hopefully they'll chime in soon.
 
Again, thanks for the timely response and update. That makes the difference between a great forum and a mediocre forum. :D
 
It just goes to show how important it is to make backups. You never know when something may go terribly wrong and you have to revert back to a previous version. I'm just wondering if they used SpRecovery or clockwork. ;) I know, not a very funny joke, but I just woke up.
 
Hopefully after maintenance is done (hopefully tomorrow) rob or phases will chime in here and give us some more details. Either way i am glad rob gave us the heads up, even though i didn't see it till after the fact:rolleyes:
 
Yeah I didn't see it till it had already crashed a couple of times. It actually went down Friday late night. I was up and just had got a p.m. from someone on here, I hit reply, and crash, I was like Wtf, thought it was my browser initially.

Was practically the same thing that happened to me, was in the middle of pm'ing a mod and poof! nothing. Been having internet problems for weeks so that's what i thought it was initially. Finally got the database error so i knew it was just the site.
 
Lost some thanks and some posts and the forum is still acting wacky!! :(

Browsed the mod forum though, that was fun!! :D

According to this topic, if you look on the main page, this tread has gotten 0 replies!!

Also, all the treads and posts in the Desire forum are dated yesterday.

Another funny thing is that threads I have subscribed to are getting replies but nothing is posted in those threads!!
 
I couldn't even access the forum until I cleared my cache + cookies. The forum appeared to be frozen in time for me - no new posts and things still appeared unread even after reading them.
 
We do apologize for the time warp, We lost 24-48 hours of data and had to restore back to the 12th, yesterday. Trust me, I'm as unhappy about it as anyone else. I go away for ONE night for my ten year anniversary with my wife, and Rob decides to break everything and lose the work I did Friday along with everyone's postings. One day I leave, ONE, and that fool breaks everything. Do you see why he needs a babysitter?

I'm jus' playing. :P This is bad, does cause some of us to duplicate our efforts with some things, etc etc - but in all honesty.. we've gone through worse than this.

Details will come later on what happened.

For now - please let me know ANY problems/inconsistencies you're experiencing. Here or via PM. If someone really did have access to our moderator forums, please let me know the details. If anyone lost their Premium membership, let me know. I'll look at the logs, and restore. If things are still acting funky, let me know what is happening and if it is something you can purposely recreate.

We need details while we work though this. Again, we do apologize we will work to get everything back to normal as soon as possible. Expect a post on Phandroid from Rob tomorrow, we will link to it on here.
