As long as you dont have a widget on your screen, you should be ok.
But if you dont like it, just uninstall it.

Also, what phone do you have?
MAybe we can give you some tips on saving battery life if we know more about your phone and how you use it.

I think you are talking about the background updates. Just open the app, go to preferences and turn off the background updates. That way it wont run or use any battery power unless you open the app yourself.

Ultimate Juicedefender or Juicedefender itself should come along the way here. It has been saving me battery by alot. Almost 2X, but thats because I don't have Ultimate. Planning to buy Ultimate, though.

i got the sony ericcson x8 thanks for the replys i seem to have to charge it everyday !!! if not twice mega power user! also do i need data traffic enabled to use apps such as facebook and ones from the droid store sorry t sound dumb its just such a complicated phone thanks again

Well, a good choice for you would probably for you to get SystemPanel Lite, see what apps are running in the background on your phone, then look at which ones drain the battery the most and take action from there. An Android phone can last the whole day, it just depends if you manage it properly. For some more help on keeping your battery alive the whole day, check out this link.

And don't, I repeat DON'T use TasKiller, its horrible for your phone and to see why, check out this link...

Gibbie I am currently testing an X8 which I got on Tuesday. I had an old pay as you go sim in it with only a small amount of credit so I turned off data traffic and just used my home wifi to do the set up and downloading of apps etc. I finally had to charge the phone on Friday afternoon.

Yesterday I put my contract sim from my X10 in it with data switched on and had to put it on charge last night, Saturday as I went off to bed. I would expect to have to charge it nightly on my general use, if you use your phone loads then you will deplete the battery sooner. I would give it a week or so of charge and discharge to see if it gets better over time.

You could turn down your polling times for Facebook / Twitter / Email to just hourly or set them up to manually update when you go in to the app. That helps with battery life too.
