OK so i bought this phone and the number is cleared and no payment is owed to verizon, yet they wont turn it on because it is still in the previous owners name...what can be done?

well i did not steal it i own a pawn shop, and i bought it off a guy...he showed me the bill that it was payed off and all information i needed, even had original reciept where he bought it...verizon said that he needs to call and have his name taken off. I cant get a hold of him and i dont see why his name is a big deal. He turned the phone off and payed what he owed.

They do that for the stolen phone reason. IF that guy actually owned that phone and paid it off then it wouldn't still be in his name. Maybe he paid a last bill but not the ETF or something. If it's in his name then there's still an open account some how. That OR it's been blacklisted due to being reported stolen.

If you can't get ahold of him now, there's probably a reason why. Did you know the guy or just some head walking in off the streat? Do you as a pawn shop owner really think the stuff moving through there was bought legitimately?

What Verizon told you is pretty much the only solution.

The phone is still on the account, there must be a phone on a line at all times, so basically he has to put another phone on the line before that phone can be reactivated. Call the guy and have him put a dummy phone on the line
