Root Droid 3 and tethering

So, i have Steel Droid 3.0 installed on my phone as well as I have WIFI tether. but everytime i start that up, Verizon's wireless hotspot opens up as well and takes over and won't let WIFI tether work.

Hello! The DROID3's radio includes settings that blocks all unauthorized data, resulting in what you described.

To bypass this, you will need to do the TBH Wireless Hack (found here), but be warned. If you mess up while doing this, you can and will turn your phone into an unusable brick. Be sure to read and re-read the entire thread before attempting to do it.

With that being said, if you read it and do what it says one step at a time, you will be able to tether. I have done it, and many other users have done it with no problems at all.

the TBH radio hack works like a charm.

Also, be sure to pickup the latest WifiTether it has a special option for the D3 as of version beta 3.1 beta 05

Does this app just act as an advanced replacement for the Verizon Wifi Tether app that came on the phone ? I mean, it won't preclude the need for the TBH radio hack under circumstances where that would otherwise be required to be in place, will it ?

The hack must be performed in order to use wifi tethering. You do not need the hack to use USB or Bluetooth tethering with the right apps.

Once the hack has been done, you can use any app you want, the stock mobile hotspot app works just fine though.

Do you think you could tell what apps you are referring to? For some reason my phone is not recognized in the radio program and i think its because I am on Liberty... But BT tethering is all I need so if you could tell me what app to use that would be great!
thx

I believe you can do Bluetooth tethering with the Wireless Tether app linked above, and you can do with USB tethering with PDANet or EasyTether.

For Bluetooth tethering you should not need any additional apps. Just make a bluetooth connection and pair the devices. Then connect to network.

On my Mac Powerbook, it was that easy...

But the radio hack making wifi active is much quicker and easier to use...
