Root Droid 3 - Finding Stock Software

KidKoala

Lurker
So I am fairly new smartphone user but not a idiot when it comes to computers and can normally figure stuff out but I'm baffled by this one. I recently bought a Droid 3 running 2.3.4 and I rooted it using the OneClickRoot. I then downloaded NoBloat Free to get rid of the bloat files which were installed on my phone which I didn't back-up. I then deleted yahoo contacts 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 (i forget which one) which then killed my contacts list which causes it to crash.

After noticing that I thought it would have been a simple fix of finding the file in market and re-downloading it. It wasn't so I then backed up everything using Titanium Backup and then reset factory setting with everything. It did not fix the problem and I cannot find anything anywhere, SO PLEASE HELP im going nuts and im sure im missing something very simple.

As a way of discouraging bloatware removal, verizon set it up so lots of apps that would seem to have no relation, rely on each other to work... so basically you have a few options:

1. Use PSouzas root tools to restore your /system/app -- Basically this will just put all bloatware back where it began, although it will not fix any other changes you made

2. You could also completely SBF your phone -- Restore it back to the way it was out of the box

3. You could just install a Custom Rom that has everything it has to have -- There are lots of good ones that can be easily flashed via CWM (SD3, Liberty, MavRom, Monster, etc) Droid Concepts also offers a debloated stock with deodexed file system that would be perfect if you like the stock system

Another thing is that if you do decide to do one of the first two and you have to remove bloatware again, it is very important you remove the right things! This thread has a lot of discussions about things that are safe to remove, so take a look:
http://androidforums.com/droid-3-all-things-root/403135-apps-items-can-safely-removed.html

Psouza also has a bloat removal script that removes safe apps so that would work... Personally I would just flash a ROM but its your choice!

Hope that helped!

If you buy the Team Black Hat app, there's a bloat add/remove button in there. As well as other hacks and tweaks.

That's exactly what I'm looking for but I'm not seeing any link to it over on DF ... been posted there since Oct. 15th ... so seems it was abandoned. If someone knows of an alternate place its posted with a link or a similar stock system, it would be appreciated.

Here you go!

If i were you I would also look into some other roms as well, but whatever works for you!

In NoBloat, did you remove the bloat apps by selecting "Backup and delete" or "Delete without backup"?? If you used backup, you should be able to restore/reinstall from NoBloat's by using its Backed Up Apps function, no?
