Droid 3 - First Impressions

You are right. Outdoor pictures seem to be fine but all of my indoor pictures have a blue look. I'm wondering now if other have the same experience.

Wow, the D3 has a serious problem with blue!! I didn't' think it was that bad. Very disappointing. :(

Cute bird though!

It's the flash. Picture with flash:

Nice bird. I always end up turning the flash off even with my actual camera. Cannot stand washed out pictures whether it be white or blue. Ok in a pinch but it will always look better to have proper lighting no matter what camera you use.

Hey guys! first of all coming from a d1 I absolutely love the d3...however...I am having the same issue with the battery. Just to make sure I'm doing this right, how do I make sure that my phone is not randomly updating all of my apps? My battery last me about 4 hours today at my desk and while I was sitting there working I could feel my phone getting EXTREMELY hot. I also switched it to the CDMA mode.

Additionally (sorry to be a pain) but I have a symbol in the upper right next to my battery. It looks like an upright battery with a checkmark through it...anyone know what this means? Thank you in advance!

That icon is for the alarm clock

Got my D3 today and I like it thus far. The battery does seem to be draining fairly quick but this is my first charge cycle so I'm not going to panic until I get a few more cycles in. As far as the screen goes, I really don't think it is bad at all. I see the grainy effect people are talking about but I tend not to hold my phone right against my eyeball so I should be ok with it. The only thing I am still yet to try is Angry Birds to see how that looks. That might be the only deal breaker for me if its that bad. Ill mess with that tomorrow tho.

All these issues with recent Android phones (Thunderbolt had numerous problems and now the battery life on the Droid 3) really has me considering an iPhone. It really sucks, but those things work as they should out of the box. I like Android, but I shouldn't have to invest hours into my phone just to figure out why the battery is draining. Remove sh***y apps from the market or give us back the battery history option.

I've been killing apps left and right and I'm still at a ridiculously high awake time with the Droid 3. Makes me thinks it's Blur or some bloat VZW put on. No bloat on the iPhone...

Sorry, extremely frustrated

Im not seeing the blue issue.... (in the bird pic)

It's more evident in the pictures I took of the stool and only happens when you use the flash. But even with that, when I took the picture of the bird and auto corrected in in the Microsoft Office Picture Manager, it fixed most of the bluish tinge.

Why do I think we will see even more of these issues with the Bionic.....

Hope you resolve the issue, rather than have to return it. I think I will slowly add apps, rather than go "all out" with a mass install effort like I normally do.

iPhone is too retrictive, so I would rather deal with some issues and maintain some illusion of freedom.

Screen quality is one thing that Apple does deserve credit for. The retina display is still the best mobile phone display on the market.

OG screen was awesome. Son has a charge. Fantastic screen. Not sure that apple's beats either.

Co worker just got iphone on vzw. Battery life is not very impressive, my og droid does much better. Also, doesn't come with turn by turn so you need to purchase tomtom/garmin etc. if you use your phone as gps device. But it is very nice, and a great OOB experience. If you don't want to mess with anything, and know that everything is sanitized by the apple gods, this is the way to go. Don't want to turn this into an iphone vs android thread.

Also, wouldn't expect anyone using a droid1,2 or 3 to be iphone candidate. I think most people on these devices are here for the keyboard. I can see x,x2,inc etc. vs. iphone.

I don't think I could go with the iPhone. I can't stand iTunes and I have already put money into the Android market. I also own a Xoom so... yea haha. I'm trying to get this resolved. If the extended battery doesn't help I'm going to do a factory reset and add apps one at a time. The cell stanbdy time though, that I don't know how to resolve.

Regarding the Bionic: that is the phone I really wanted. After my experience with the Thunderbolt in a 4G area, I'm going to wait on 4G for a couple of years and let them improve the radios. Battery drain on 4G is crazy.

So far my phones only been off the charger for 4 hrs and 28 mind and I'm already down to 30% battery. Not looking too positive but we shall see.

Also my phone has been hot all morning even when not in use.

That is the exact same thing I experienced on my first day. Mine had to do with email apps conflicts. I use K-9 but the GMail app was also still enabled. I can't delete my account from there but I turned off all syncing and that seemed to solve the problem.

Okay, today has been much better. 5.5 hours off the charger, with about 45 minutes of display time (use), and I'm still at 80% battery.

For you guys that were having bad battery performance, have you been plugging it into the wall or your computer? Have you tried running any root apps, like SuperOneClick? If so, try and reboot your phone after you do (make sure you are unplugged and stay unplugged), or after you've fully charged it on your computer. Maybe something the way it is syncing with the computer (or adb from the root attempts) is causing the bad battery performance.
