Root DROID 3 Lemon LAW?

Hey everyone at AF. I have found the lemon of android and yes it is the droid 3.With me Being on my ''Third'' Droid 3 i am doubting this phone more and more. The first one had three problems 1.screen wouldn't sleep 2.shut off when plugged in 3.No GPS EVER. The second had two problems 1.No GPS EVER 2.Touch screen no response. Now my third D3 wont stay on for more than five minutes.

I only rooted the one i have now because i thought maybe i would flash SD3 or liberty and problem would be fixed right? No I rooted with one click and installed safestrap tried flashing and it wont flash. Now it wont go past Motorola Dual Core and wont charge enough for me to flash Droid 3 SFB?

So im asking has anyone had this many problems with the D3 and also how do i Flash the Droid 3 SFB to unbrick if this even means i am bricked?

Previous phone was a Rooted evo 4g running decks 3b

When I got a Samsung Droid Charge, I had the same problems. My D3 is amazing. Yes I have issues with it but rooting it fixed them.

Sorry you didn't have any luck with this one. Sometimes batches of phones (that were made at the same time) are bum. :(

I called Verizon and they are gonna send me a Droid X2 hopefully ill have better luck.

I own two d3's, both are rock solid. you must have had terrible luck.

So you have never had any problem with the two? No random reboots or horrible touch respond or GPS issues?

I'm not gonna Lie i have my doubts about getting the Droid X2 because of the Motorola Name on it.

Susan & I both got our first smart-phones last summer in order to lock in unlimited data plans. I got an HTC Thunderbolt and she got an X2. We both swapped them out for Droid3's within the 15 days. My T'bolt was ok, but battery life was bad even with the LTE radio disabled, and I needed a keyboard. Susan's X2 was a horror. It rebooted lots and randomly, got HOT, and didn't have a keyboard either.

The Droid3's we replaced both with have had no issues except that the stock cameras crash some and are slow and clunky. Originally, people who were buying D3's were updating from other phones and moving apps over. Often the apps they moved over did not get along well on the D3, and problems resulted. Also, people who got replacement phones tended to report those phones had more hardware issues than their original phones. People sent back their first phones often because of a keyboard problem that turned out to be a ROM issue and was resolved in the only OTA we've gotten so far.

Nice phones, no regrets.

I've had my Droid 3 since the day after release, operated it stock, just rooted, and most recently rooted and ROM'd (Liberty) with very minimal issues. The occasional random reboot, but that could usually be traced to me trying to do several things at once (not really excusable, but at least preventable, and it's stopped since I moved to Liberty).

Honestly, it sounds like you had some pretty severe hardware issues the first go-round and you haven't had good luck with your replacements. You're still under warranty, keep asking for them until you get a phone that works. Your experience is far from the norm, so good luck in finally getting a stable phone.

I have not had any hardware issues with either of my D3s either. My biggest complaint (and one that really frustrates me) is the camera and its lack of acceptable performance. Second to that is the battery life for only a 3G phone. I'm on the extended battery and I can only make it through the day by putting it on maximum battery saver (and I'm a light user during the work week). Between the camera and the lack of hearing about any plans for an ICS upgrade, I think its safe to say this will be my last Motorola phone. If I had it to do over right now I'd have either the Galaxy Nexus or the HTC Rezound which has gotten great user reviews. The Rezound really has it all including a kick butt camera and software.

I'm on my 3rd D3 because of keyboards crapping out where the buttons still function, but lose their click feel. This one has some touch issues where I'll hit the top conversation in Handcent, but the 4th one down will open. Lately, the GPS has had a lot of trouble getting lock. The Razr Maxx with a 3300mah battery and ICS looks nice, but I still have my worries about Moto and locked bootloaders (I'm assuming). I have my eyes on the GNex...just gotta get there somehow. I'll trade down from 8mp to 5mp for all open source and legitimate ICS.

I have had 9 DX's 7 DX2's and now I am on the D3. I am on only my second D3, my first one had a tinny ear piece. This phone is far better then the DX & X2. Getting a DX2 is a downgrade. I wouldn't take that change. The D3 in my opinion is the best 3g phone out. Don't settle for less. Complain till they give you something equal or better. If who you're talking to doesn't help then say thank you, hang up and call right back. Lather rinse repeat. Someone will eventually help you.

The d3 and X2 are getting ICS sooner than later the verizon tech i talked to told me that and he said i can go back to the d3 if i want. The new problem i am having is i called about the d3 on Friday and they said they were gonna Over Night the X2 and its now Tuesday and still no phone. Wtf

Unfortunately, eventually is the key word. Can your sanity and tolerance for stupidity outlast their attempts to tell you it's your fault?

Those are definitely tested when calling in to Verizon. So far the most times I have had to call was 3. I just act as polite as I can regardless of how incompetent the person on the other end is. Good luck.

I would call them (if you haven't already) I had one instance where the guy I was talking to flat out lied to me. He agreed to do everything I asked. When my DX2(replacing my DX) never showed up I called them back and they said there was never any such order. That b-hole just yeah, yeah, yeah'd me and never entered anything. They quickly fixed this for me.

Maybe call them right off the bat and tell them know you already "did you try rebooting, pulling the battery, factory resetting, etc." thing. I feel that we're all competent enough to try this before calling them anyways. :p

The DX2 came today but no "Battery and Back" it should come tomorrow the phone came from Fort Worth Texas. When ever i called for a problem i always told then i did a factory reset just to get strait to the point of getting a replacement sent out ASAP. But ASAP is used lightly in Verizon's work ethic. I think going to the X2 is a downgrade but to get something as good or better is not possible since the D3 is the best 3g phone they carry and something better would be a 4g phone and i am not paying for 4g.
