Droid 3 tips inside

Hey everyone, I figured a thread with a consolidated guide on the D3 would be in order. There's great info in this forum, but it's all spread through different threads and posts. Please, if I miss something of use, let me know so I can share it with everyone!

Saving Battery:

~This is a global phone, so to save battery life, you should go to settings > wireless and networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > and choose CDMA

~For adjustment of your battery savings, go to settings > battery and data manager > battery mode, from there you can choose from the following options: maximum battery saver (max savings, least auto updates), nighttime saver (option I use, switches to battery saver mode at night), performance mode (no restrictions on syncing/no battery saving), and a customizable battery saver. `credit to IzelTokatl for this tip

Limiting Data Usage:

~Go to settings > battery and data manager > data saver > from here you can select or unselect the data saver. This options does the following to reduce your data usage:
-Waits until you are connected to Wi-Fi to download items from the browser
-Waits to upload large photos or videos (over 5MB) until connected to Wi-Fi
-Waits to send emails with large attachments (over 750KB) until connceted to Wi-Fi
-Postpones all downloads until a Wi-Fi connection is available.

~To absolutely eliminate all data usage, go to settings > battery and data manager > data delivery > and make sure all 3 options are unchecked.

Thethering

~The tethering widget available through the market works amazingly well. It's as simple as flicking the widget on when you want to tether. No additional computer side downloads! Rooting:

~No rooting solution as of yet, will update when it is available.

Security:

~To set a password for your lock screen, go to settings > location & security > change lock screen, then choose the option you would like to use.

~To adjust the time your device will require a password in, go to settings > location & security > then choose security lock timer.

General:

~To adjust haptic feedback, go to settings > sound > and check/uncheck haptic feedback.

~There is no video chat support yet, will update this when available.

~If you miss a physical camera button, miss no more! The OK button on the slideout keyboard will take pictures.

Dont forget the battery Option under Settings. There is a section for Battery Mode, you can set it to Maximum Battery saver to let it go into a data sleep mode after 15mins of inactivity, any button press will wake up the data.

Replying to keep this thread near the top so I can access it tomorrow when I hopefully get my new 3.

This would be a good thread to have stickied...

I'm not sure how to do that, could you explain how? The exact one I'm talking about is called "Tethering Widget". If you search that in the android market, it's the first result. It's free to download.

Edit: More info to help narrow any other possible results-Developer is Alek Chmyr.

Anyone know what the dialer commands are to get into phone program settings? On my htc eris it was *#*#program#*#* then it wanted a code, 0000.then you were in and free to change various settings.
