Droid Bionic RAM + 4G coverage

even the atrix is still using standard DDR RAM. while the bionic technically has less available RAM, i am willing to bet that it will outperform the atrix because of it's DDR2 format.

i am still rocking the OG Droid and was due an update in november, but wanted to wait for LTE, so i am hoping the bionic will be the one. i am kind of disappointed that it was the only Tegra2 device announced for VZW at CES though. while the jury is still out on the LG Revolution, the HTC Thunderbolt is confirmed to still be using a single core.

Sorry, the Atrix also has DDR2 RAM.

In case no one has noticed in the last 10 years, Verizon never gets the best of phones out of all the carriers. They rely on their network speed and reliability. I doubt Verizon will ever have a phone that "out-specs" a phone in any of the other carriers' line-up. If Verizon released a phone in even September that beats the Atrix, one of the other 3 carriers will release an even better phone. If you want to be at the forefront of devices, you're on the wrong carrier.

No, the original motorola droid was the best.

Ok, when the Droid 1 came out, what other Android phone on the other carriers was considered better at that time?

About "out speccing" another phone, yea the Droid X came after the EVO, but some would argue the X is the better phone overall. I think the total lineup of Android phones on Verizon was better than the rest until recently.

If you take the Droid 1, 2, X, Incredible, Droid Pro, Fascinate, maybe even the LG Ally...I dont know what other carrier could match line up that until recently.

I dont keep up with Win Mo or Blackberry so I cant speak on those. But Verizon's Android line up has been top notch.

And droidfan, I agree.

Thank you for this. This is a great post.

Right now it is AT&T>VZW. Soon VZW will be >AT&T phone wise.

However, I still think VZW>AT&T, and that it has been for a long time.

Once the Bionic/Atrix are released AT&T will take the lead. But not for too long.

It is sort of a neck and neck battle. Sprint sometimes has a great phone come, like the EVO.

Alright fine ... 1.2 Ghz / 1.2 Ghz Dual-Core
It sounds like you're wanting a Laptop.

You are going to be having a SmartPhone in your hands. While your demands for 1 gig DDR2 ram and a 1.2ghz Dual Core processor are nice, look at the times. Let technology catch up with these things. They are getting faster and better by the month, so give it time and you'll have your super awesomely fast phone. Then again, by that time, you'll probably be wanting a 2.0 GHZ Quad Core phone with 4 gigs of DDR3 ram.

No, I just want a 1GB RAM + Dual Core of 1.0GHZ x2 or higher.

Those are my minimum specs for a next phone.

Although 2.0 GHZ Quad-Core + 4GB of DDR3 RAM would be nice!

Then answer me this. Why do you want those specs? What in the world do you plan that requires that speed?

Are you sure you're just not wanting more more more more more?

Not wanting to buy a phone because it doesn't meet your insane expectations seems a little...extravagant.

My only gripe is: Why the difference in between the Bionic and the Atrix? Why couldn't they have the same specs? I really love the Atrix' specs and I would plop down the cash for the phone, desktop dock and the laptop accessory. Just seems like we VZWians got hosed...

I will more than likely be purchasing this phone upon release, blur be damned I love the specs..

Agreed. I've loved my Incredible but good lawdy I need to get some quality time with this beast myself.

Those poo-pooing on the RAM apparently haven't spent a lot of time upgrading computers. If you want a faster box you do the central processor first, graphics processor second (if applicable), and then it's fairly debatable whether you look at a quicker storage media or higher quantity/spec RAM third.

In short, (lack of) software optimization is infinitely more likely to cause a bottleneck on this beast than any perceived RAM deficiency.

I personally don't mind that the Bionic is less platform-flexible than the Atrix. The Atrix has some cool ideas going on but the whole netbook/tablet arena is still far too fractured for me to personally become an early adopter. If there were more universal standards between manufacturers and carriers in regards to hardware ports, operating systems and so forth (for example, common "docks" provided in public places) I'd be of a different opinion.

Nexus One, two months later. Albeit buggy on release, significantly better than Droid.

Incredible had barely 2 months of spotlight until Evo was released. Droid X and 2 are Blurred, a.k.a. garbage. Some of the media functions may have been slightly better, but Evo was still a better overall phone, especially considering the ridiculous locked bootloader on the newer Droids. Fascinate was not exclusive to Verizon, Galaxy S phones hit all carriers. T-mobile also released the new G2 which is blazing fast. They also got exclusivity to Google's own Nexus S, which is part of a line that gets the latest and best support from Google software-wise. Verizon may get an entire line of pretty great phones, but there will always be another carrier that will get a SINGLE phone that trumps them all. Next year will be the same. Everyone expects Verizon to have the greatest hit new phones, but will not. Just wait and see.

I don't know LOL. My DX is extremely good... I dunno why I need such insane specs. I'm sure this phone will be super great. I think I will wait for iPhone 5 or 1GB RAM + Dual Core.

Nexus One, two months later. Albeit buggy on release, significantly better than Droid.

So, for those 2 months before the Nexus 1 came out, what other carrier had a phone that could match the Droid 1?

Thats right, the Fascinate wasnt exclusive to Verizon. Since it had a Galaxy S phone, you could exclude T Mobile when you say all the other carriers get a better phone before Verizon when the Vibrant was the only decent Android phone it had before their recent phones came out. Every other carrier is finally starting to have decent Android phones, more than 1 decent Android phone.

Bootloader has no effect on how the phone functions.

Believe it or not, some ppl actually like Blur. So thats more opinion than anything. And I dont even like Blur...lol

The EVO is a better overall phone? The X has better phone functions, (noise cancellation) cpu/gpu, battery life, screen....and I didnt even mention the multi media functions. Some Incredible and EVO owners switched to the X just for the battery life and phone functions. That means they also didnt care about Sense UI over Blur. And Motorola has a reputation for better reception than most. Another reason some Inc and EVO owners switched to the X.

(please, EVO owners: just pointing out why some ppl would say the X is the better overall phone...lol. Both are good phones....and I do wish my X had that EVO speaker.)

There is never a single phone that trumps all. Outspec, maybe. But not trump all. Why, cuz choice is good. Us Android users should know that choice is good...

Verizon has or had the best line up to choose from. Other carriers, after 1-2 phones (really only recently does other carriers have more than 1 decent phone to choose from)....well thats it.

I think most of us here are old enough to recall what truly bad "smartphones" were like, but I think the technology and quality utilized by notable phone manufacturers has improved to where any perceived superiority is fairly negligible when you look at the big picture. More often than not, Motorola, HTC, Samsung, and Sony/Ericcson release very good phones. It's apples to apples at this point, in my opinion. (or should I say Droids to Droids?) Thank God for robust competition in the Android device market, am I right?

Anyways, I love my Incredible. Yeah, the battery life has been anywhere from "mediocre" to downright "awful" at various points but the silver lining is it made me learn more about those ubiquitous things across all Android phones which can drain battery. It also gave me a reason to learn a bit about jailbreaking & modding. These are lessons I'll carry with me to my next Android device.
I digress. I would be content to use the Incredible for another year if my contract weren't up this summer. I would also confidently buy another HTC device in the future but my desire to experience what I perceive to be a mobile gaming revolution just on the horizon trumps that; so I'll be getting something with a Tegra2 chip & 4G connectivity.
If nothing else comes along, my choice will probably be the Bionic.

LOL @ DroidX as garbage. Someone sure doesn't like verizon.

I switched to the Droid X just last Thursday because my OG Droid wasn't cutting it anymore. I went to a 4-day expo that went from Thursday-Sunday and I can't imagine having been there with only my Droid...the Droid X's battery life helped IMMENSELY. Whereas when I was at 40% that would be gone within 2 hours of moderate use, every 10% on the Droid X was really stretched out and it never fully died on me once.

I just use Launcher Pro to deal with the MotoBlur stock launcher I dislike. I wish I had a STOCK Android OS like the OG Droid did, and it looks like the Bionic will have the same NinjaBlur stuff as before, but it's dealable with a replacement Launcher. The X has been a DREAM so far.

I'm with Verion, have an Incredible. It's Blur I hate, as well as a locked bootloader and that nasty hump that comes with the X. Someone can go ahead and try to list all the great features it may have, won't change the fact that I and a lot of others think the X sucks.

Foolishnes! I've been around X owners too much I forgot what it was like with my eris and getting defensive because I had a lesser device

Out of curiosity, why so specific about the extra 512MB of RAM?

If it's true that the Atrix requires it because it's running webOS, then in the case of the Bionic, which doesn't do this, it would be excess.

I don't see too many complaints from others who have 512, so do you currently experience regular limitations with your DX?

Yeah, I feel my X doesn't load pages on the internet quick enough, it also lags slightly too much in games, and the launcher crashes / freezes every so often.

I honestly can't friggin decide myself, the Thunderbolt just has a sexy look, the new snapdragon (only 1GHz so that kinda kills it), and 768mb of RAM while the Droid Bionic has the dual-core processor, qHD screen, but has the locked bootloader. And then we have the iPhone 4 which we all hate but I love experimenting with all OS's, in 2009 I got the Droid 1 and that's what got me hooked on Android, so you never know, you just gotta take everything for a test drive to see what suits you :)
