Droid Bionic Texting problem

Well its official, I hate my bionic. First ever smartphone I've had and while its a 4g smart phone that works and I'm grateful to have it, its also a piece of shit with a million tiny things wrong with it that drive me crazy. The following is a great example of a problem that well not HUGE, it still drives me ****ing bonkers and no "smart" phone in the year 2012 should have this problem. When I recieve a text message from somebody it will show up in the notification bar. I pull down the notifications and select the message. It will now bring me to the text conversation thread AND I READ THE MESSAGE. THE MESSAGE IS NO LONGER NEW, I'VE READ IT. I go to type my reply and BOOM the phone re notifies me of getting a new message even though it is an old message and i've replied to it. Sometimes it thinks as many as 4 or 5 messages are new even though I've already replied to each one over 5 minutes ago. help ?

Another things that pisses me off is that when you go select a word with the arrow to try to change it to a different word the arrow lines up with the word below u are trying to select and it is freaking impossible to select the new word because it just thinks u are selecting the arrow. Absolutely horrible design. When does the new iphone come out ?

Are you using the stock texting app? Sounds like you are getting multiple notifications, which happens when people install multiple sms apps and have them all set to retrieve the notifications. Sometimes my phone does lag behind where I'll have read the message and the notification in the bar doesn't go away, but I have never had the notification actually trigger twice.

Also I'm not sure what arrows your are talking about while texting. Are you using the Swype keyboard? You can turn off the row of arrow keys if you'd rather just have them gone.

Iphones suck but whatever makes you happy.

That happens to me on the Droid 3 (which is basically the same software as the Bionic for now) sometimes as well (i.e., reading a message from the notification.) However, if I read messages by opening the stock messaging app directly, it never does this.

It's annoying, and I can see why it would be frustrating, but , as I said, it's easy enough to remedy (at least in my experience.) As said above, if you are using a third party messaging app, perhaps it's an issue with that app?

I have an iPad and an iPod Touch with iOS 5. I disagree that the iPhone sucks - it's a great device, IMO - but I have similar text cursor placement problem with iOS on my two devices. It can often take several tries to get the cursor in the right place. Luckily for me, the Droid 3 has a hardware keyboard, so that makes it easier to place the cursor. As suggested above, you may want to try a different keyboard to see if that works better for you. If you are using Swype, see if you have the same issue with the stock multitouch keyboard. You may also want to try Swiftkey - it also has cursor arrow keys as an option, and perhaps it will work better?

But, seriously, a phone is just a device. If the iPhone is better for you, get one. There is no one size fits all in smartphones; we all have different requirements and wants.

Haha I wasn't trying to start an iPhone debate I just hate when people voice their frustration with an Android problem by making a comment like "when does the new iPhone come out". Apple devices are far from perfect too and no matter what you have, sometimes you have to patient working past an annoying little problem.

I'm using the stock texting app. The problem just seems to be getting worse as my phone thinks i have 5 new messages even though I have NONE. How can a message be new that I have already replied to??? The arrow problem I am referring to is the cursor juts down below into the new word you are trying to select making it near impossible to select the new word. Its little things like this that shouldn't piss me off, but they do.

Could you elaborate on your solution a little bit ? Open the stock message app directly? Isnt that what i am doing ?

It sounds like you are opening it from the notification - pulling down the notification bar, tapping on the notification. When I get a new message notification, I open the text messaging app from the launch bar on my home screen, rather than by pulling down the notification bar. If that's what you are doing already, then never mind.

Yes this is what I'm doing. I assumed by doing it this way and going through the notification bar that it would remove the notification!!!

I'll try doing it the other way and see whats happens.

Have you powered your phone off and then back on lately? This happens to me, and several of my friends with different phones everyone once in a while. It's not always a phone issue and more likely than not is verizon sending the message more than once.

Wow. Im amazed that all of you used stock anything. I dont. I went from an Ally to a Bionic with a 16GB Class 10 Micro SD. Im in heaven! Apps comin' out the wahzoo! Stock, pfffft.
