Droid Bionic to receive Jelly Bean update

"While we wouldn't have blamed you for thinking ICS was the end of the road for the Droid Bionic, a Motorola Support page now indicates that a Jelly Bean update is on its way in Q2 2013. The handy little tool that Motorola introduced last year to help people find out about upcoming updates on their device reveals the information when selecting the Bionic from a list of support devices. As pointed out by Droid-Life, prominently at the bottom of the page it lists "Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) upgrade rollout expected to begin Q2 2013."

Now that's a pretty darn vague window, if true, to have the update "start" somewhere in the next three months, but we're not going to look this gift horse in the mouth. If it does come true, there are going to be some seriously happy Bionic owners out there.

They actually said the Bionic would get JB last fall when they talked about the $100 offer to devices that could support JB and wouldn't get it and the Bionic was on the list of those devices to get it.

Considering that JB is starting to come out or will soon, on devices that are nearly identical to the Bionic hardware wise, such as the original Razr/Razr Maxx, I believe it would be to long before we see it.

Well since the "roll out" adopters are coming up in May for their two year contract upgrades, I am surprised that they didn't make the schedule Q3 or Q4 to get those upgraders to go ahead and sign a new contract.

The wife's razr got JB. It has a couple of features but is unchanged mostly from ICS. I already have Gnow installed under ICS and have the updater frozen in case GSM doesn't work under JB.

Yeah, my tablet has JB and honestly, I don't see much difference. To me ICS was the bigger upgrade, mainly because it was promised to us when we bought the phone and also, and more importanly, because it takes advantage of the phone's hardware capabilities.

To be honest, if the $100 were in cash, I would almost rather have that over JB, however, I am glad that Google does seem to be trying to do what they can to end the Android fragmentation by upgrading the phones under their control to upgrades that a phone's hardware can handle.
