Droid Charge hunt

Damn! I was the first person to Cheli's in Detroit (I literally parked across the street, having had my suspicions it would be in the area). Didn't win though.

Oh well. Gonna try for Columbus on Wednesday. ;)

How long did it take before it was found?

And how close was it to the nearest Verizon store?

It took surprisingly long. The hiding spot was really odd (the third floor of this restaurant, in a kitchen type place(?) and hiding behind this wood paneling). I'd say 20 minutes. It felt like forever looking for it, though.

Lemme consult a map... It wasn't really close to a Verizon store. The closest one is on the southside, and Cheli's is on the northside. I don't think proximity to a Verizon store is a factor, to be honest.

I found the Miami Charge today! We spent what felt like hours at a bar called Tobacco Road. Everything felt so surreal. Hopefully my story might help those looking the last few cities.

First of all, all of my strategic planning fell through. We had assumed that the corporate Verizon stores would at least be in the loop, so we found the only store on the map, and decided to stay in that area. It turns out Verizon employees know absolutely nothing. Only one employee even knew of the scavenger hunt going on in their city. We got there very early, and drove back and forth for 5 hours or so.

When the location was tweeted, we were on the wrong side of town. We took a mad 15 minute dash on the road. When we hit traffic, I had my girlfriend take the car, and I sprinted to the location. There were about 8 people already looking for the phone. 8 more people showed up while I was there. It ended up taking us another 20 minutes before we actually found it. Ironically, all of us must have touched it at least once. It was taped under some coasters sitting on an empty table, so simple.

I tried to remember some tips I found around the internet. Most importantly, watch who the camera guy is focusing on. He would pan around, but always focus on the guy who was closest. Also, there were little hidden cameras around the hide. I didn't know what it was at first, but it made so much sense after. Lastly, they all seem to be in a pretty obvious hiding spot. We all seriously passed over it more than once. Under the coasters just seemed too easy I guess. They had to tweet us another clue before I thought to check again.

After I found it, I had cameras all over me. Apparently, they had a bunch people waiting in plain clothes around the bar and outside. We found out that none of these guys were Verizon reps. They work for the marking company Verizon hired to put on the hunt. They had everyone sign video releases and gave away $50 Verizon gift cards. They got a photo-op of me recieving the phone, then everyone got a chance to play with it. The camera guy ran around taking video of me and other participants, then pulled me outside for an interview. They best part was after about 45 minutes of pictures and interviews, they told me I don't actually get to keep the phone. They took it back and said they'll mail me one when the Charge is actually released.

What a day. Feel free to PM me if anyone has any questions. I named dropped Phandroid in one of the interviews. Just maybe that will make it into the Youtube video.

Anyone have a clue on how to find the location before its announced. Plus is anyone looking in Columbus, Ohio. I want to help you out as I will not be able to be there. I know the area very well.

First off congrats! Sucks about not being able to keep the phone, kind of a jip huh? Anyhows, apparently tomorrow is the San Diego one, and fortunately, the zoomed in part of the map on the site, is right next to my house anyways, so I am going to be mad dashing over there when they drop the stuff. Thanks for your info, and hopefully I will be able to post on here like you did! Congrats again!

Apparently very few, maybe two or three people, actually know the exact location until it is tweeted. All of the marketing reps have to follow the final tweet like the rest of us.

I went to the Miami Verizon corporate store, and a retailer and nobody knew anything at all. My only advice would be to try to stay downtown, and drive like hell to get there first.

I have a couple of ideas that narrow it down to a square mile or or two. And yes, I am looking in Columbus, Ohio. :D

Anomaly12: Atlanta, GA - 5/3 - Engine 11 go now !!

30 North Ave. NE
Atlanta, GA 30308

Good luck getting there during rush hour (strike one) in the rain (strike 2 and 3). It would take me 2 hours minimum in this traffic. Unless you work in town no way anyone else is going to find that.

That was quick the Atlanta one was found. I bet it was someone who worked in one of the many office buildings.

Are you kidding me? They didn't let you keep the damn phone? That's just ridiculous. But anyway, congratulations! Glad to hear at least someone here won. :)

Is anyone else having trouble with Twitter? About 1/2 hour ago it stopped pushing updates, and now won't even let me sign in. Great timing. WTF!?!?

Edit: ok, it's back up now. Crisis averted....for now.

Waiting on pins and needles for the San Diego one. Anyone have any news on it?

nope and the GPS coordinates have jumped from downtown to Mesa College to Fashion Valley so I'm wondering where it'll land. Website shows the contest is over but nothing on Twitter about SD yet so /shrugs shoulders.

Just back from the Columbus, OH event. I passed over the Charge about 4 times. Some girl from Cincinnati found it. But I did win a $25 gift card in the raffle!

I won the Charge in Rochester! So did Mike! We both found it at the same time and it ripped in two. Guess they've never had that happen before. Luckily, after they held a raffle to see who would win it, they decided to give a phone to both of us. It was awesome!
