Help Droid deletes everything on SD card!!!

TestDisk - CGSecurity

Using an SD card reader, I ran TestDisk and recovered a fair number of files. I'm in the middle of a deeper search to get some photos I didn't see during the initial recovery.

TestDisk has an ancient interface, but works well.

The Droid just lost big points in my book. As a personal information device, DELETING personal information is NOT welcomed by me.

This just happened to me this morning and I am pissed! Did the OTA update this morning, about 1 am , and everything has been fine since. All my pics were still there and worked. All my Widget skins ect on the card have worked fine. Then today at noon I decide I am getting really irritated with SLACKER's ridiculous sound quality and I am going to listen to some BTLS on my memory card. But when I select it the player keeps giving me an error that it does not support this type of file?? Been listening to the same files since I got the Droid and it has always played fine. So I try to play another and another and another and every single one says it is not supported by the player.

So I open the Albums in the player and see AudioSlave, select the album that says it has 12 songs and open it and there are on 7-8 songs listed?? SO I back up and it now says the album only has 3 songs left. So I re-enter the folder and watch as the songs disappear one by one until there is nothing left :(. SO I went from 1.49 GB free this morning to 14.93 GB free within a matter of minutes. There is NOTHING left. And no I have not connected to a PC for at least a few weeks.

After some more searching, it seams there's been problems related to disappearing data and LOST.DIR showing up since the G1. I wouldn't trust important personal data on the droid right now.

I can deal with a force close, a few crashes, or some slow screen scrolling. Deleted data is complete BvllSh!t and inexcusable, especially without warning.

I've been searching, does anyone know how to search the apps installed based on their capability? I'd like to get a list of all the apps that have access to my SD card.

However, I would assume no app could access the card directly, and all hardware accesses would be filtered through the Hardware Abstraction Layer. So, this has to be a problem with the OS.

My media files have been wiped now, twice in the last week. It happened to me today after the update installed. The only time that I connected it to a PC in the time window of the files being wiped was a couple of days ago when I copied a bunch of music back on to my droid after it got wiped the first time. Not happy...

I noticed my SD was wiped after mounting to a Mac, OR a different computer. Would mounting from one computer one day and another the next cause some sort of problem? I understand this could be a dumb question

This has happened to me twice since the OTA 2.0.1 update. At first I thought that my Music app had failed but then realized that there was nothing on the sdcard. After reloading my /Music directory this afternoon it happened again this evening. I definitely closed and dismounted my Droid correctly from Windows and even listened to some music to ensure it was loaded. Probably some poorly written app I've installed but not sure which one it could be yet. If anyone has an idea, please post. And not rooted either.

Here are the apps I've run since loading the Music directory today: Jewels, Dolphin Broswer, Gmail, Linda File Manager, Phone, Messaging.

I, too, have lost everything on my SD card after the OTA update. All pics, music, ringtones, and videos. I had a major sound issue where the non-droid sound files quit playing randomly. Did a hard reset which did not help. Researched the problem and tried the speaker phone on/off toggle too. Didnt work. Put phone on charge for the night so I could take phone back andshow Verizon techie the next day. The next morning, everything worked again UNTIL the update early yesterday morning. Now, the touch keyboard is lagging and I have an icon for Gallery but it says the application is not installed. I'm pretty sure I have a dud. I'm tired of fighting it. I went from my blackberry to the Droid and had high hopes. I'm very disappointed. I'm within my 30 day return period and honestly, at this point, I don't know if I even Want another one.

Just happened to me again, this is the 2nd time now...I haven't connected the phone to a pc or removed the SD card since the last time this happened, so I am assuming this is a phone software/firmware issue...WTF?

I just contacted Verizon since this happened to me last night. They claim they have no reports of this, so it is important that everyone call and let them know.

I was using Slacker when it happened to me, but I don't believe that it access the SD card. I was also using Dolphin Browser and saving files to my card so that is my prime suspect at the moment. Actually, it is my second suspect as it seems this problem has erupted since the last update.

Put me on this list. did the update. lost all pics and mp3s on the sd card. i have other files with word and excel files in a briefcase that turned into a normal folder.

Dolphin Browser and Slacker are two of the apps that I have been using daily that I've seen other people mention in this thread. Don't know that it necessarily means anything because they're not the only apps I've run but the first time my files were deleted was right after I started using Slacker. I'm not sure if running the update really means anything, either, because the first time I lost all my files was before the update.

A Serious bug exists with Slacker. I read just a few of these threads and have came to this conclusion UNINSTALL SLACKER IMMEDIATELY!

I didn't ask for these users... I'm allowed to post here just as much as they are... Personally I feel that a user should be required to read here for at least 2 weeks before being allowed to post. Not only should they have to read for 2 weeks but they should have to issue at least 20 searches before they're allowed to post....

Smart phone / Dumb phone... Maybe the monikers aren't about the phones but rather the people they were meant for?

Good thing you aren't in charge of the forum.. in fact they created rules about people with comments like those above. While I am big on searching, it doesn't always return results that one is looking for.

As for this issue, I haven't had my SD card erased, but just did a full copy of it to my MacBook Pro. I do not use slacker so that could be the source of the problem

Just happened to me as well. Haven't used the phone in about two hours. Picked it up to find that my videos were gone. I've had the update for about three days now. First big disappointment with the phone.

Listen folks, as all of us have said before, friendly debate is fine and disagreement is fine. Fighting on the internet is pointless. People join Android Forums all in search of one common goal: To learn about Android and make our experience with our new gadget as fun as possible. Let's remember that not everyone is an expert.

@#$%^! Mine just did it for the third time! I called Motorola support this afternoon to report the problem. A while later, I decided to use Ringdroid to remake some of the ringtones I lost, only to find that all my music was gone again. I had run Slacker for a while , earlier, to see what would happen but I've also been running the Dolphin browser. I'm going to uninstall Slacker and take that variable out of the equation.

I used Slacker on my Storm for many many months and it was great. It has the ability to cache the stations to your SD card so you can listen when you dont have a proper signal , or in my case I used caching to conserve battery. I know we cannot cache stations with the Android App yet but maybe it is something they are playing with....

Whatever the case, I will not be using Slacker again until I can confirm that it is not the culprit. At this point I am thoroughly convinced that it is....

PS: I am relieved to see the BTH disrespectful nonsense come to a close. Many thanks to the Admin.

I used Recuva to get most of my data back. Most of the movies didn't get recovered but that's not a problem. My biggest concern was the Keepass database and pics. Recuva has definitely shed some light on selling old computers with the hard drives still installed. I will never do that again. It recovered info that was deleted more than a month ago!

Does anyone know of an all-in-one sync process? Moto Media Sync only syncs three folders from what I can tell.

Installed 2.0.1 Wednesday morning. Installed Slacker, Ringdroid, and Droidlight since. Everything was working fine, taking pics, videos, using slacker, creating ringtones, until last night, I received an MMS and saved the picture to SD card, went into gallery to view and all my folders displayed grayed out yield signs with exclamation points. Restarted a couple times, removed battery, unmounted and removed SD card, and all that accomplished was to remove all the broken folders. Funnily enough, while I'm typing this, I'm finding the keyboard to have a major delay. Looks like maybe this Droid is getting a factory reset, and NOT reinstalling Slacker. Poor Slacker if it's not their fault.

Is it possible Slacker is mistaking personal files for cached stations and deleting them?

I had the same issue last week. Lost everything on the SD card. I've had Slacker installed for several weeks, but haven't been using it much because the audio quality was wacky. Then Slacker released an updated via the Store, I installed it and have been using Slacker since early last week. Coincidentally, that's when I lost my data. For the record, I lost data BEFORE I was notified of the OTA Android update from Verizon.

I went to the Verizon store on Friday, and they couldn't tell me anything. He put me on the phone with their tech support and that guy told me to wipe the phone and selectively install my apps back one-by-one until I find one that wipes the data. Both the in-store reps and the tech support guy both told me they've never heard of lost data on the Droid. ?
