Help Droid Eris Got Wet

Open it all up, leave the battery and sdcard out of the phone, and put it in some uncooked rice for a few hours. Hopefully this will get all of the moisture out and it will start up again.

I would err on the safer side and leave it in the rice for the day. Also, those little silica packets work awesome. DO NOT POWER THE PHONE UP WHILE IT IS WET AT ALL!

Thanks for the response. I have it in rice but I did not open it up and take the battery and SD card out. I was afraid the rice might get inside the phone. I will take it apart and leave it in the rice for a day. I may have already messed up. After several hours I tried to power it up. Nothing happened. I also plugged in the charger thinking the heat generated may help dry it out. Thanks again.

Generally speaking, you don't want to do anything with a wet device that requires electricity - turn it on, charge it, etc. The more time you can leave it in the rice the better. My wife ran herEris though a full wash cycle and it came out of it just fine. How deep it went in the pool will make a difference also.

Crossed fingers.

My son's touch-screen feature phone went into the water briefly last summer. We put in in a baggie filled with rice and some silica packets for three full days, and bought a brand new battery.

It worked when first powered on, but not well. The display was flakey and you could not trust it to work reliably. I've had the same experience with a compact camera - it worked ok, but the display was not quite right and then the images were never right.

If the rice trick works, that's great, but I would be prepared to buy a new phone.

My husbands Eris also went through a full wash cycle and the dryer for a few secs! :D

We put it in rice for a few days and the phone and battery both still work flawlessly to this day (this happened in March 2010).
At first the screen had some water spots underneath the glass, but it all went away eventually and you can't even tell anymore what it went through. Tough little bugger!
