Droid eris messing up after update..

Here too with the lockups/hangs after the update. Happened maybe 2 or 3 times now after ending a call or when trying to unlock the screen. This is a quick way for HTC to lose some love. Hope I don't need to dial 911 and this POS locks up.

I haven't had any locking problems but youTube is not working properly. Most videos won't play, and the ones that do, you can't watch in high quality. Anyone else having that problem?

I have had the screen dimming problem and what I do is go into settings and then open display settings. For some reason this brightens the screen back. I dont adjust anything just go into the settings. Also sometimes when exiting an app instead of taking me to the home page it sticks between the home and the page to the right of it. Pressing home again takes me back to the home page. Neither of these are horrible, but kinda annoying. Any others experiencing these? No issues with freeze up though. I am interested to see what those of you who are factory resetting are getting for results. Please update.

Yup, same here...and numerous other posters. Aggravating....

Same problem here. Has worked fine after I pulled the battery, although it seems a little laggy when I swipe down the initial screen. I have been bypassing by just hitting the menu button.

I travel between a VZ area and an extended network area during my day, for some reason the weather widget keeps me in the extended network most of the time, even when I'm not there.

Just things I've noticed since the OTA

Mine went all day without freezing, then froze twice in a row a few minutes ago. In my opinion, this is an unacceptable problem. Having to pry the case off, then the battery cover, then the battery is a pain in the ass.

HTC needs to fix this fast.

Ok, I thought of something that may be of some use here. Like I have stated before, I ma not experiencing any of these problems/issues that other members are have. With the exception of YouTubet, I have even tried it yet. Been working on root. Anyway...

Some of you may think this method sucks, but coming from a few WM devices prior to ERIS, this does work. I did the manual update, so did some others. The rest of the community opted for OTA. I did one more step though...wiped device after manual update. I'll provide instructions, but first let me explain why.

When reflashing any device, some data does not get deleted properly or even thoroughly. On my TP1 and TP2 I always (and it was recommended) performed a hard reset (wipe). Yes, this restores your phone to factory settings and you will have to set it all back up again. No you will not have to do the update again. You can try it and see if your issues are still there or you can deal with the issues. I skipped this step one time (TP2) and paid the price after setting everything up. I was experiencing all sorts of issues, but after wiping all issues were non-existent. Like I already said, all the issues that I've read about I am not experiencing.

To perform a wipe:
Turn off phone
Press and HOLD Volume Down, Talk and End
Select (highlight) RECOVERY with the Volume Down Button and press the END button
Phone will reboot and you will see a screen with an image of an explanation mark
Press and hold HOME button and press END button
A menu will appear in blue
Using the trackball, select the option to wipe device and follow the onscreen directions
When this is done, your phone will reboot.

If you do do this, atleast play with it for a few minutes after you have done the initial setup. In other words, if you were experiencing keyboard lag while typing start up something you can type in. So on, so forth. If everything works for you then install your apps. If after installing your apps you start experiencing issues again, then it is obviously and issue with the app(s).

Last minute note:
NO this will not harm your device. You are simply putting the phone back to factory settings.

As far as YouTube on my end I can view some and can't view others. I really never used this feature on any device, but I did notice in the settings that it told me that some stuff would not work with my gmail account and it asked for a login & password for a YouTube account. Can't say much more about this though.

I thought I was having the same issues with the lock screen but it turns out that it was the way I was unlocking the phone. I think that you guys might be experiencing the same issues. Anyways before the update you were able to just run your fingers anywhere in the screen and that would allow you to unlock the screen. Now after the update you really hav to use the grey bar. If you place your finger on the gray bar and swipe down on it the phone will always unlocked properly. Try that and let us know. Here is a video showing you what I mean.

I tried that, it really help me any.

The only problem I'm having so far, as well as my brother, is that YouTube will not work properly since the update. Hopefully they fix these issues in the next update.

Yep, same thing happening to me and every other person I've sold an Eris to as well.. Problem is I sell the Eris for a 3rd party Verizon dealer and have had several people come back with their phone freezing on the lock screen.. Now that this problem is a little more known as not specific to a few individual devices, lets get a fix already.

Only problem is...you can also press the "menu" button to unlock it and even that is not working for some people including my gf. I would hope that most people would be intelligent enough to try being more specific as to where they wipe especially if it wasn't working the same as before...then again my faith in humanities ability to perform common sense actions is quickly fading.

The problem is that from time to time it is actually locking at the unlock screen, not that we aren't hitting the bar in the right place.

I've narrowed the bug down to some specifics and will be notifying HTC, Verizon, and Android over the next couple of days, starting tomorrow. I have outlined some workarounds for the time being....

Android: Bug in YouTube app

My eris is doing the same lock-up/freeze as a lot of the others have described and that the only thing to remedy it is a battery pull. How do you do that? Yes, I am a total moron when it comes to anything electronic. Can someone run me through this?

Thanks!!
