DROID ERIS Security

A friend of mine was considering getting a DROID or DROID - Eris but was told by his work (a hospital) that these phones are banned because the email is not secure enough.

I am not sure what this means. I have synched my email to gmail and msn (my work has too many layers to pass through to sync)...are these phones secure for internet, such as banking?

Thank you.

On a practical level, I have no doubt that the Eris and other Android phones are plenty secure ... probably as secure as any smartphone. But corporate network administrators often refuse to support more than one or two mobile platforms (generally Blackberry), claiming it's because of security concerns. I think the real reason for it is simple laziness on their part ... just an unwillingness to potentially have to support more than one platform.

It sucks, but a great many system admins out there have very little regard for the needs of their users.
