I'm sure everyone has this problem but I was wondering if there was a quick and easy way to delete text messages because I have some threads that are over 2000 texts which is literally impossible to delete without deleting one by one.

Welcome to the Android Forums! If u want to delete an entire thread, just long press on it and it will give u the option to delete it.. hope this helps.

Its best just to delete the messages every day, before they get to such a large amount. It can delete a 100-200 message thread with no problems, but 400 seems to be its limit.

Use SMS Cleaner Free. That app is so much better at deleting messages than Delete Old Messages. Mainly because the free version allows you to delete more than messages older than 6 months, like number of days old. It also allows you to preview what messages you're going to be deleting. I had a thread with 2000+ messages in it over a month. The free version of Delete Old Messages couldn't help me there. SMS Cleaner Free is the best app for this in my opinion.

Welcome aboard the forums, dav1es15.

The device is taxed to the limit with deleting anything over a hundred texts messages or so.

Try to do some maintenance every few days with the browser cache, app caches and email and text deleting. That way you won't need a third party application to try to do the a job you can do better.

after you delete them, download sms backup (free) from the market and back them up to your gmail after about 100 texts.

When you using those apps you cant just delete them all at once.. you must do it in stages..

It took several runs before I got my 1000 messages gone..

Any way to delete the threads as a whole through mounting it as a removable disk?

I wouldn't think so. Mounting the phone gives access to the SD card, but I believe that messages are stored in the internal phone storage - which is why too many messages can slow down the phone.

I think you're looking at using the Delete Old Messages app, and letting it run overnight while you're blissfully unaware of how long it's taking.

ive tryed to delete a thread with 20 messages and it freezes my phone or gives me the "force close" its frustrating!
