Droid Goes to Sleep Screen Doesnt Work

I have a moto droid and anytime the phone goes into sleep mode or the screen shuts off the touch screen quits working, but once you pull the battery and then turn the phone back on it works fine again untill it goes back into sleep mode

The question is, is this hardware issue or is it software the phone was stock when it started to happen

Phone is my bosses so i dont know if he had dropped it recently

So what you are saying is that your screen shuts off, and then you touch the screen and it doesn't do anything?

I am having the same problem. After the phone's screen turns off and i press the unlock button to get to the unlock screen my screen does not work and i am unable to unlock the phone. Any help would be great.
