Help Droid in dock causes computer to hang at boot?

kadaj21

Lurker
I've got a D1, and just got a dock for it plugged into my desktop pc. I was wondering if anyone has had their pc hang while the phone is in the dock like I have. If its in the dock during POST, the pc will hang, but as soon as I remove it, BAM, the pc resumes booting.

Anyone got any thoughts or solutions? It's not a major deal, just curious.

Thankies!

Dustin

P.S. Yes...I said THANKIES. WOOT!

Check your Motherboard's BIOS and see if there is a setting allowing legacy USB devices - if it is there and enabled, try disabling it.

(or) You may (also) need to disable allowing of USB bootable devices - otherwise the computer my try to be booting off the android USB connection, hence why it is hanging.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive that one of those two, or perhaps both together, should stop your computer hanging when booting.

Be careful, though. If you have other legacy USB devices attached and need the first setting, disabling it may render access to those devices inoperable.

If you have a USB device that you boot off of regularly then you will not be able to disable the second setting, b/c this will effectively disallow booting off of any USB device.

Yeah, I think what I'd be worried about it my keyboard since its USB....Hate to disable and then have to go somewhere to find a PS/2 connected keyboard...

well..I might have an adapter somewhere, I'd really have to hunt, lol.

I'll give it a try though. Where it seems to hang is at the beginning, when its testing or reading through the memory. That's why I was confused/concerned/etc. I'll see if there's an update for the BIOS as well, just in case.

Thanks tho!

No, legacy USB devices - really really *old* USB devices. Disabling legacy should *not* affect your KB unless it is rather old.

Good idea to check for a BIOS update as well, I should have thought to mention that as well.

TBH, though, when you said it is hanging at the mem check - that's also when it is enumerating the bootable devices, so Try just disabling USB boot devices alone and see if that works. Disabling USB boot devices will not disable your KB and mouse.

The PC, if you're running vista or 7 is trying to boot from the phone.
I believe that is what johnlgalt is trying to tell you.
;)

What is causing it, I am going to guess that you leave your droid in the dock with usb storage access turned off.( you know that little scren where it asks if u want to turn on usb acces when ever you dock your phone or hook it straigt to your computer) What is happening is the droid is telling your bios there is a usb storage device here, but it is not ready to be used. either unplug the druid from the computer when booting. or turn on usb file access when booting and all those problems will go away. The other option would be to go into your computers bios and disable usb booting. I am not sure that turning off usb booting will work. I haven't tried it on my computer. I just unplug the phone from computer during boot time. I spent hours and I mean HOURS trying to figure out why my computer stopped booting. I went as far as removing all the cards from it reseated the cpu. Before I tried not having the phone plugged into the computer on boot. And hey I'm talking to you on said computer now.
