Well, I was hoping not to have to have the phone in my hand while driving, or have to look at it to see if it came up with the right person from my contact list before dialing the number. With the unit I got, it is suppose to ask you "Did you say John Doe?" then if you say "yes" it will dial.

yeah i know what you mean... nothing is really perfect but i guess you have to go with it or try a different rom with different Bluetooth radios that might have the features that you want... that is the only other thing i could think of...

Can you recommend one? I have never flashed a ROM and I am nervous about trying one. How do I get back to the stock 2.2 if I have problems? I am a noob at this :)

Evening friends. I have a question. Anyone here use an e-reader? Was looking at the kindle dx graphite.. but know nothing about what's what. I definitely need some advice.

Congrats on the milestone! I'm just looking for a book reader.. b&w is fine. I want it to do nothing beyond being a reader... at least I'm not looking for more than that.
I saw the nook.. barnes and noble reader right?

yeah the nook is B&N and on top of that it does have a Froyo layover so you will be used to the navigation and market

i personally (my self) haha would think about getting the nook or any other tablet because it can be used as a e reader first off and then tou get all the the benifits of having the tablet side as well and that is what i do on my Xoom

and another side note... if you arent in the marked for a bigger screen and just want an e reader there are many that you can get on the DX that are free

and the last side note aint it past your bed time old man HAHA j/p

Forgot to add - I haven't used the HTC keyboard in ages - I use Swype, so the GB KB was only used to do the initial setup until I restored my apps.
Could never warm up to swype... have it on my inc (well before it crashed) and never used it
Why? Did something momentous happen to you that I'm not aware of? Everything OK?
... long story, spent some time essentially houseless and i am no longer engaged. seems i'm not very experienced in relationships and social interactions.... plus i (used to)spend all my free time here.....
i been on hiatus since late feb

Personally the 6" version is fine for me. DX is the nine and about 100 bucks more expensive if i'm not mistaken

Nook color is fat IF you wanna root it and have the worlds cheapest tablet. NOTHING beats reading on a kindle though. I LOVE IT!!!!

Pardon me for asking this in here, but you guys are the only ones I know who are always testing out ROMs. Does anyone know of an app that will let "hands free" Bluetooth work with my Dinc?

I have a Jabar Cruiser2 and it shows up in my Incredible like a headphone. I can make calls if I dial them from the phone first, and it will also answer them OK. But the hands free dialing doesn't work. Around here the cops are really cracking down with big fines.

Is there an app that will work as a go between or do I need to flash a ROM?

I am rooted, but have never done anything more then remove bloatware and use the mobile hotspot with it.
Sorry Musky,
I know what you are talking about but I don't use bluetooth with my phone so I don't have any recommendations. I do know that the bluetooth stack on the ROMs based on the stock Incredible ROM (basically any Sense 1.0 based ROM) sucks and quite a few features were left out.
Just because i had to

Evening troops. In my quest for information on e-readers.. particularly the kindle I ran across a new to me on line auction site. Perhaps you are all familiar with bigdeal.com.... I'm typically in the dark on this sorta crap. Anyway.. anyone have any experiences they would like to share about this site? Seems to me items can be had dirt cheap if you happen to be one of the last bidders to bid on an item and you don't bid very often. I've been watching an ipad 2 that's on the auction block right now. Near as I can tell the going price for bid tokens is seventy five cents. Bids go up a penny at a time. That makes the site glean seventy five dollars in bids for every dollar bid on an item. The ipad is now over 22 bucks. So the site is making sixteen hundred dollars in bids for an eight hundred dollar item. Crazy sh*t!

Never herd of it but if u try it and its legit let us know lol

I think I'll steer clear of the site. It's legit but your chances of winning an auction without spending a fortune is slim. It's designed to make them money and reading blogs and such about the site there are many that believe you are bidding against bogus bidders invented by the site.
Not for me.

Hey.. good luck with your job dude.

I ended up at best buy tonight... seemed a lot less problematic. I settled for the the six inch kindle with only wifi. I can't see the need for 3g for an additional fifty bucks.
I brought it home and fired it up... linked it with my local net.. logged onto my amazon account and bought a couple of books. Been reading ever since. I love it! Thanks Night for the advise. For lack of space in my house.. my library has resided in my shed for many years. Last winter I had a major water problem in there. I took forty plus years of books to the dump first of the week. Needless to say... I was in the mood for a better way to store my books. The kindle, besides being a very nifty means to read a book, should serve me much better than my old shed.

Morning all. Snowing here this morning. Got to love the crazy weather, yesterday was around 70, today 40 and rain/snow.

Sounds good Olbriar. It's a shame about the books that got ruined. While I love the convenience of e-readers, in my heart, they just won't replace the real thing.

Snow.. good grief man. I know what you are talking though. Day before yesterday it was coat weather here. Yesterday it was shorts and sandals. Today the wind is blowing like crazy but somewhat warm.

The death of my books was a sad thing indeed. It's not that I had anything valuable but I'm sure there were some books that would be difficult to replace.. even if you wanted and could part with the dollars. It's the very idea of tossing all my reads from middle school on that just pissed me off. I guess that's what I get for not frequenting the shed and counting on it to be a quality storage.

I know what you mean about the kindle. So far it seems very handy but I quickly noticed the lack of paper texture and zero new book smell about it. I'm wondering if the e-readers will be the cause of an increased price of the printed text? I would hate to think there would come a day when visiting the library would also pass as a trip to a museum.

And you know that you can email books straight to your kindle that yopu got outside of the kindle store. Kindle will convert them to correct format for you (unless its epub, in which case calibre is great). Hate the way pdf's show on it so i convert them to text first, then email them to kindle. There is a site design for you to download books you ALREADY own in paper format called tuebl it states that as long as you are downloading digital copies of books you already own then all is good. Weather or not that is exactly true i couldn't say, just throwing that out there

EDIT: And +1 on no new book smell, always loved that. Though i was anal about getting creases in the bindings of my new books, glad i dont have to worry about that anymore

2nd EDIT: TOP OF THE PAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok... you have my total attention. I never got off of page one of the settings until I read your message. I had no idea my kindle had anything beyond a mac address. The email address opens lots of doors. This is a much cooler toy than first appeared. You are a wealth of knowledge and I sure appreciate you picking me up here.

Do you suppose I might count my paper contribution to the dump in my list of owned books? lol
