I'm too lazy to do that kind of thing myself. We had an installer remove the carpet and linolium and put in the laminate.

My buddy in the floor covering business talked me into using vinyl planking. It looks like the laminate but it's vinyl. I don't know if it's any better but he was able to get the product for me at a decent price.
This is what Mrs olbriar picked out.

OMG the nightmares of when we ripped up the carpet in the dining room all came rushing back. Lol. It looks nice but it was a huge pain in the ass. Good luck!!

Pain is an understatement lol. The Dining room wasn't too bad.. it was regular pad and carpet. The kitchen and laundry was the old glue down. Both carpets were ancient and not only worn out but incredibly soiled. This project is way overdue and is my xmas gift to the Mrs. I'm a trim carpenter/cabinet maker by trade so I'm not foreign to construction. But ripping up nasty old carpet and trying to remove the remains of the old rubber back and glue is more destruction than construction lol. I just hope my flooring shows tomorrow. I'm without my washer and dryer as well as my dishwasher. I don't even have hot water in the kitchen.

I'll like it a lot better when I'm done lol. I put off ripping up the living room carpet. It's got to go as well but I'll finish the kitchen first. I get in these moods ya know.. rip it out.. throw it away haha.. I've lived in this poor old house for near forty years.
I'm remodeling my remodels now. Most of the work is way over due. I've been too poor trying to raise four children.. college and the like. Now the house gets it's due.

4???!!!! Bless you.

It seems incredible to me too lol. I moved into this house in the spring of 1973. I never planned on living here forever but raising children made in impossible to move on. Now that the kids are grown, I haven't much reason for a larger place. I was going to fix it up and sell it but now I think I'll fix it up.. put my feet up.. smoke a good pipe and read a few AF threads lol.

Spoken like man with many years of great wisdom... My hats off to ya sir... Enjoy some old English for me

Well, I got my floor down. It's pretty easy to do but very time consuming. Just under 200 square feet took me a full day to install. But I'm a carpenter.. no flooring dude. Tomorrow I'll move my appliances back in. I'm looking forward to having my washer and dryer back in working order. Will be especially nice to have the dishwasher and hot water at the kitchen sink again. No hot water and no dishwasher is a real bummer.

It took most the day but all the appliances are reinstalled and working. Did some dishes and a couple of loads of laundry. Man it's great to have that behind me.
Next the living room.. sheesh!
