The way people drive around here, the police have no problem meeting their quotas (which they don't have, of course) :)

We seem to have more than our fair share or road idiots here as well. If you can manage to stay out of their way, they will be getting the paperwork.

Sometimes drivers around me are driving so irratically due I think to being distracted (cells etc) that I keep hoping a cop will show up and wake them up!

For the past three weeks I've had to drive through Wichita South to North and then back again after work. Both commutes are right at rush hour. It is simply crazy. I just shake my head... It's no wonder I see a wreck most every day.

I spent over 30 years driving the rush hours of LA, one of if not the worst cities to drive in the nation. San Diego has a few trouble spots, but nothing like that. Besides, I pretty much set my own hours now, so I can avoid the bad times.

I'm sure I'd freak out in that LA traffic. I'm glad you have some choice in the timing now. I normally work on the East or West side which makes the trip much easier. I have a job North of the city going on now.. making a long and challenging commute. Between the traffic crazies and the often slick roads, takes all the fun out of driving to work... if there is any fun.

When I lived in LA, I lived 21 miles from my work. It took me an hour and a half to get to work and close to 2 hours to get home at night. I finally decided enough was enough and quit a very high paying job and moved to Washington state.

Now that I'm at retirement age, I regret that decision.

I've heard that Washington State is beautiful. I would think it a great place to retire. I would think any move from LA would be a good move. Retirement age here as well btw. There isn't much going on in Kansas but the cost of living is low. I hope to survive the retirement years here. Being self employed all of my life, I'm not certain retirement is in my future anyway lol.

Washington is very beautiful but unfortunately this California boy just couldn't get used to the winters. After we were married we moved to my wife's hometown in eastern Washington near Spokane. We were there for many years until my wife was killed in a traffic accident. After that I decided to move back "home" to try and get over the constant reminders which were everywhere in the small town we lived in.

Instead of going back to LA, I chose San Diego where my sister was living.

Though I was not born here, I grew up less than seven miles from my current home. I was here and there going to college and work but never permanent. I thought the economy would force me to move a time or two but I managed to stick it out. I just lacked the desire to migrate. I never experienced a life altering event like yourself.
I'm truly sorry for your loss Musky. I can well understand how such a tragedy would necessitate a change. Moving near family was likely a wise choice. That's all a man really has is family and perhaps a true friend or two.

I'm not even very well traveled. Maybe I would have fallen in love with a different area if I had at least seen it.
Being self employed and struggling I never had the chance to see much of the world. I've visited the surrounding states and been to Arizona a few times to visit two of my children. They simply couldn't wait to grow up and migrate. That's it.... that's not what I would consider exposure. No complaints however. This is home.

I hadn't accessed this forum via PC in a while, been using Tapatalk on my phone and tablet, so I was surprised over the changes in forum format. Not pleasantly surprised either. Having a few problems finding things. :)

I wondered why Tapatalk started displaying my favorite forums differently a few weeks ago.

I like the changes in the forums but the overall look of it could use a skin of less light. Spend a few hours here and my eyes start to hurt. As for Tapa... I can't say. I gave up using it over a year ago. It just wasn't a trustworthy tool to use working on these forums so I gave up on it. If I can't tablet or pc the forums... I just don't work here. I might check in now and then... but I use my phone browser to do so.

The forum app (still based on tapa) is running like a well oiled machine these days

You are investing your time wisely. Glad things are going well for you. No major complaints from my side either.
It's cold, it's snowing, and I'm home for the weekend. :)

I view this thread like it is a good book. We are nearing the end of chapter one. Most all of the main characters have been introduced. The plot is not entirely clear but all readers know they are in for a crazy ride in the ensuing chapters.
